How to be a Better Driver

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

As a driver myself I have to admit to not being perfect but, the standard of driving seems to have gone downhill.
Nobody seems to have anytime to drive with consideration and courtesy for other drivers anymore. It is all rush; rush trying to get there before they have left with no time to spare for anyone. So

TIP 1 Slow down by just 5 miles per hour. You will get there just as fast but you will be safer and use less fuel.
(Consideration and courtesy is the key)

TIP 2 If it starts to go darker, maybe rain or approaching dusk, Put on Your Light. You may be able to see alright, but can others see you. See and be seen. (Consideration and Courtesy is the key)

TIP 3 When on an island and about to come off, indicate so other drivers who are waiting to come onto the island can see you are turning off. They are not mind readers. (Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 4 Give your self more time and try not to brake hard when approaching slower moving vehicles at a junction. The driver behind you may not be as quick thinking as you, prevent an accident. (Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 5 When reversing into a parking space, indicate in plenty of time, so others behind you can slow down safely and not stop right behind you causing you a problem. (Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 6 When you have parked your car in a town or city, check your mirrors for pedestrians before opening your door, also remind your passenger to do the same. Do not forget other cars coming passed you. (Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 7 If you are stuck in a traffic jam, do not get annoyed it affects your health and well being. Take the time to relax, carry a good book with you to read. You are not going anywhere, no matter how inconvenient it may be. There is also no point in trying to keep moving out, it only annoys the drivers in front and behind you and could cause an accident which will make your journey even longer. (Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 8 Keep a safe distance from the car in front. There is nothing worse than seeing a car up your bumper in your inside mirror. It will also save you having to keep braking hard or having a bump, saving you stress, time and money. There is always someone slower than you are so be patient.
(Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 9 When you are driving and you have a passenger with you, when you are talking to them get in to the habit of keeping your eyes on the road in front of you and not turning your head when you speak. It only takes a split second to have an accident. (Consideration and Courtesy)

TIP 10 I am sure you can think of more things that other drivers do that annoy you, But do you do it yourself, if so stop and think if you can improve your driving habits. (Consideration and Courtesy)

All these TIPS will not only make you more Considerate and Courteous, but in turn make you a better and safer driver, possibly saving you from an accident, also time and money getting your car repaired. There will also be less wear and tear on your car engine, clutch and brakes, so making your car more reliable saving you time and money.

How to Choose the Best RV Cover

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

The new road warriors are here and everywhere when you drive on the interstate. These new modern RV’s offer many different options that some may just envy, from designer colors to luxury interiors. Many have state of the art technology to provide a smooth ride. To eliminate dirt, debris and especially to protect your RV from howling winds, torrential rain and near 100 degree heat, many RVer’s are turning to RV Covers.

What cover do you use when you are on the road? Do you actually need an RV cover? If you are like many people, you may not use a cover at all. And why would you, you are on the road. You might be surprised that you need a cover while you are parking and not driving your RV. Why? Because even though your RV is built to handle harsh weather, you still need protection overnight.

This comes handy during cold weather, where covers made of polypropylene are the best choice. In most cases many of these covers come with a zipper to allow access to the doors as you do not have to be taking the cover on and off every time.

One of the most common covers is the Tyvek cover which protects your RV from all kinds of weather, from rain to long time exposure to sun; however, it is overpriced. Another type is the Expedition cover which comes with 3 zippers on each side for an easy door access. For heavy duty and long term use, consider investing into the Expedition cover.

Another high quality cover that protects from UV rays is the Goldline which in most cases comes with 12’ zippered openings for doors and has a fully woven fabric. This fabric helps protect your RV paint color especially in desert areas or any area that has a high exposure to UV light.

The fabric used makes a difference. High quality RV Covers are breathable and allow moisture to escape and help to reduce the formation of mildew and mold. During hot days, it keeps your RV cool as they allow heat to escape. High quality covers are also water resistant and provide protection against UV light.

Covers that do not breathe well keep moisture inside and may cause corrosion on the RV. Furthermore, they may promote rust as the cover is trapped against the RV.

With that being said, how do you shop for the best RV Cover? With many different options you need to first find out how to measure your RV to get the best fit. Measure your RV from end to end including bumpers, spare tire and ladder. Good covers have provision for AC units.

Check what is also available online as by doing this, you will have a larger selection. One choice to save money is the Expedition cover; however for a better protection of your RV Goldline covers bring the value for long-term use. In addition, most online stores offer discounts as they do not have as many expenses as other traditional retailers. Also, some websites offer discounts for AAA or GoodSam members.

With many different covers on the market, you need to choose the one that can provide the best protection for your RV.

National Discount Covers provides RV Covers for over 25 years. We are the most trusted source for Travel Trailer Covers with the highest level of customer satisfaction. 110% Guaranteed Low Price.

legal radar detector use in asia and the middle east

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Hurry! Vacation! You prepare to the big trip – visit your dream destination in the Middle East or in Asia. Everything is packed already, including your radar detector. You think you will use it in the rented car. And hard to believe but it is so: when you start your way either in a car or on a motorcycle with a radar detector in your suitcases, probably a wrong trip started immediately … Not everywhere, but in many countries. What adventures are waiting for you?

You want to use radar detector (including motorcycle radar) as at home. You do not want speeding, yet you think, better to use this useful device to avoid problems on the streets. However, it may be illegal. Radar guns are used by policemen and other authorized persons. Everything is well-known. Police use radar gun, and generate signals to clock and ticket motor vehicle speeders. Before the signals reach your car, detector alerts you and you decelerate the speed. The newly developed radar detectors are able to make alert on the basis of accepting random signals in 360 degree, that is, before police radar would “discover” the speeding motor vehicles. For speeding, motorists are punished with heavy fines, tickets, etc. You want to avoid this situation and use your device in the moving vehicle. The police regulate its use in different ways. The rules cover car radar detectors and motorcycle radars too.

Radar Use in the Middle East

Motorists can use detectors in the most frequented tourist destinations. Its use is legal in Jordan and in Saudi Arabia. The radar ordinance in the United Arab Emirates is simple: it is legal to use in cars and in motorcycles too.

Asia: Strict Regulations

Do not use detector without knowing the rules! There are controversial regulations covering the details: owning, using, selling or buying the device.
Citizens and visitors can use detector legally in India, Japan and Pakistan. It is banned in Malaysia: illegal to purchase, sell and use, or to possess it. The custom laws declared it prohibited. Detectors are very popular in Korea, especially the devices with built-in GPS are used legally. China is not only a transit market of high-tech devices – radar detectors are used legally in the country but jammers are illegal.

Marine radar use has special differentiation on the international and the national waters, so many details are regulated by international law.

The regulations may change at any time so before starting a trip in a foreign country it is advised to collect information about radar detector use.

Infiniti Car: A Brand that Signifies the Ultimate Luxury in Motion

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

The brand Infiniti was introduced in 1989 by the Japanese firm, Nissan Motor Co Ltd. in the US as a luxury car. Today the company has expanded its operations in more than 15 countries worldwide. Due to poor marketing, the car could not compete well with its competitors Toyota’s Lexus and Honda’s Acura during initial years after it was launched. However, gradually with better advertising and launch of some award-winning models, the brand became a strong contender in the luxury car segment, with consistently growing sales.

During late 1990s and early 2000s, the Infiniti brand started losing much of its charm, but thanks to its rededicated effort to develop the powerful and dynamic line-up of sporty luxury cars, the brand almost saw a revival in the early part of 2000s. Its model, G35 almost turned the sale around for the company as it was voted the “Motor Trend Car of the Year” in 2003. A number of variants of G35 have been launched in subsequent years, and the company has redefined the brand Infiniti as “Japanese BMW”.

All variations of the Infiniti, namely coupes, sedans as well as crossovers today are based on the Nissan FM platform, in which the center of the car engine is located behind the front axle centerline. This positioning of engine shifts the weight of the car more towards the center that makes the front suspension less burdened. The wight of the car is thus distributed equally on all four wheels that improves acceleration, braking and handling. This design was first included in the 2001 version of V35 Nissan Skyline, and was later incorporated in all the variants of Infiniti, though it has been slighly modified in some of the M35 series as enhanced FM platform.

Infiniti car is equipped with powerful engine that gives excellent performance and very high speed. Once you are on the driving seat you can feel its high power. The icing on the cake is that Infiniti car with such powerful engine is not a high maintenance car, a problem that you generally face with most other powerful luxury cars. Whenever you are looking for a dream car for yourself, the least that you expect is a perfect exterior with modern and stylish features. Infiniti car with its sleek body will captivate your attention at the very first glance. All its models are beautifully designed and are perfect blend of style and comfort. Once you become the proud owner of Infiniti car, be assured that it will give you company for a long time.

A luxury car is a great add-on to a person’s status and class, and it is not looked upon as a mere utility vehicle but also as a status symbol. Today, with most of the people striving to own a luxurious and elegant car, Infiniti car is an ideal choice with high tech engineering and excellent performance. Infused with its luxury content and spirited performance, Infiniti has achieved a premium status in the market today.

7 Things to Know when Renting a Car

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

In today`s society, there are a number of reasons why people rent a car. Some of the top reasons are vacations, a car they own is in the shop and renting a nicer car for a special occasion. Whatever the reason that you are considering renting a car; there are some things that you should know first.

1- It is wise to shop around when looking for to rent a car. Always find at least three rental car companies to compare, although more will be better. Be sure to ask all the companies the same questions to get the most accurate answers. Most rental car companies will have websites online to find basic information, but it is best to call as local branches may have deals that are not advertised online.

2- When you call, be sure to ask about price, vehicle availability, as well as any specials that the branch has to offer. It is worth noting here, that many of these companies will have special arrangements with hotels, airlines or even warehouse stores.

3- You will want to ask about any special instructions that are required of you while renting the car, for example, filling up the gas tank or pick up and drop off times. Not adhering to these policies can result in fees.

4- Many companies that will rent a car to you will also be willing to either deliver the car to you or pick you up and take you to your rental. This service may require a fee, but can be worth asking about if you are flying to your destination.

5- The rental company may offer you insurance to purchase, however, your personal auto insurance may be all you need in the event of an accident with a rental car. Call your auto insurance agent and ask before paying extra at the rental counter.

6- There are a number of choices that are open to you when renting a car. Each class of car will vary in price and gas mileage; consider this when making your decision. While many companies may be willing to upgrade you, this is not always the case. It is wise to choose the car you want and hope for an upgrade than to reserve less of a car and be disappointed when an upgrade is not offered.

7- Have a credit or debit card handy to reserve the rental car with, most companies will only guarantee a car with this assurance.

Choosing the Right Car Tyres for Your Vehicle

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

You may need to replace or change your car tyres because of their age, deterioration or to improve the vehicle`s performance. This article outlines some of the key factors that need to be considered before choosing the right car tyres for your vehicle.

1) Car Tyre Size

A good policy is to choose the same size car tyres as the ones that the car was manufactured with. If you are unsure of the vehicle manufacturer`s recommended car tyre size, check the owner`s manual or look for the information on the tyre placard (usually located inside the fuel flap, on the car door or in the glove box).

Changing car tyre size can improve a vehicle`s handling and performance but be aware of the Government regulations before doing this. A car tyre specialist can provide advice on this matter.

2) Driving Habits

Certain car tyre brands are quieter than others, which is an important factor if you spend much of your time driving up and down motorways.

Driving on county lanes where the road surface can be muddy or slippery will require car tyres that can provide extra grip. This is usually determined by the tyre manufacturer`s choice of tread pattern.

Or you may be a city driver who constantly has to brake and accelerate. Some car tyres are better suited to this style of driving than others because of the type of rubber compound used in their production.

3) Price

The saying “you get what you pay for” is true with a car tyre. But if you use your car infrequently don`t buy the top of the range car tyres as economy tyres will be more than suitable for your needs.

If you use your car every day, spending extra on better quality tyres may prove more economical as they shouldn`t wear out as fast as a budget tyre.

4) Car Tyre Type

Car tyres don`t only differ by brand and price; there are different types of car tyres produced for a variety of purposes. Five common types are:

a) Standard/ All Season Tyre
An average tyre that is suitable for all year round use. It works equally well in the wet and the dry.

b) Performance Tyre
Designed to provide excellent grip in the dry. Often used on fast cars or for drivers whose style requires improved handling performance.

c) Winter Tyre
Winter car tyres are designed to cope with poor weather and difficult driving conditions. The tread block pattern on winter car tyres is larger and more pronounced than on standard tyres.

d) All Terrain Tyre
All terrain tyres provide good grip on loose surfaces such as dirt and sand. Often used by off road vehicles, they can be used on standard roads but are very noisy.

e) Run Flat Tyres
Run flat tyres are a relatively new concept but are becoming more common on new cars. They are designed to operate without air to enable the vehicle to continue being driven when it has a puncture.

5) Weather Conditions

The UK weather conditions can be very changeable. Summer can have temperatures in the high 20`s. And then winter brings freezing temperatures, icy conditions and wet weather.

Cold weather car tyres are becoming a popular choice as they are designed to cope with the cold and wet weather of winter but with no significant downside if used during the summer months.

Standard or performance car tyres are suitable in countries with a warm and dry climate all year round.

For further help consult a car tyre specialist who can provide you with impartial advice on which are the best tyres for your vehicle, budget and driving circumstances.

Choosing the Right Minibus Insurance Policy

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Not every person or organisation owns a minibus for the same purpose. The five different types of minibus insurance available from the Minibus Club highlight the different uses for this type of vehicle:

1) MPV Insurance

More commercial operators are now using MPV`s for carrying passengers because of their versatility, comfort and the ease that the vehicle can be adapted to satisfy the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Examples of MPV use include education, nursing homes or for employee transport. A competitive MPV insurance policy will be tailored to the needs of the organisation.

2) Taxi Insurance

Many taxi operators use a minibus or MPV as a taxi because of the adaptability of the vehicle to carry more passengers and extra luggage.

Two types of taxi use are public and private hire. Public hire allows the taxi to be hailed by customers, who can then be picked up on the roadside. Private hire operators require the customer`s journey to be arranged before they are picked up. A taxi operator will require additional insurance for the “carriage of persons for hire or reward”, irrespective of whether they are private or public hire.

Public liability can be included with a taxi minibus insurance policy. It is needed to comply with local government requirements. A minibus taxi operator must have an indemnity limit of at least £5 million.

3) Family Minibus Insurance

Not all minibuses are used by commercial organisations. An increasing number of people recognise that a minibus can be a very versatile vehicle particularly when they have a large family who all like to travel together. There are minibus insurance packages specifically designed to cater for this type of use.

With this type of policy it is important to remember that the minibus can only be used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes. If there is any element of hire or reward in using the vehicle or it is used for commercial purposes then cover under this policy would not be applicable.

4) Charity Insurance

There are thousands of charitable organisations in the UK who use minibuses. Many charity groups rely on the versatility a minibus can provide in allowing them to take large numbers of passengers on journeys that may not have been easily achieved by using public transport.

A good minibus insurance provider will offer charity minibus insurance for non-profit making organisations to keep their vehicle running costs to a minimum. But a Section 19 or Section 22 permit will be required to prove to the insurance provider that the minibus is being used for charitable and non-profit activities.

5) Fleet Insurance

Large organisations may have more than one vehicle that needs insuring. Fleet insurance covers all vehicles under one policy regardless of their make or model, with no upper limit on fleet size.

It is the most economical way to insure more than one minibus. And it reduces the time and paperwork involved with insuring each vehicle separately.

For whatever the reason is that you own a minibus, a specialist minibus insurance provider can provide advice and help with finding the right insurance policy for your needs.

The Minibus Club is a specialist minibus insurance provider and has offered UK minibus insurance quotes since 1997. Visit their website for minibus driving advice and to receive a free online quote for minibus insurance.
