22 Questions to Ask Before You Use Any Shopping Cart System

Friday, December 19th, 2008

You can use traditional methods to sell products such as direct mail, catalogs and advertising. However, if you have a great online presence, the entire world is your marketplace at a fraction of the cost of most traditional methods. To easily sell to this worldwide marketplace, you need a great shopping cart system.

Choosing a shopping cart system is perhaps the most important single decision you`ll make in your online marketing career. This is because you`ll be stuck with the decision for a long time.

If you buy into a system that isn`t adequate, it can cost you money–big money–because it won`t maximize the amount of money spent by each visitor.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of off-the-shelf, free and alternative products out there vying for your money, time or both. And most of them are junk.

Don`t suffer like I did. I learned the hard way. When I started on the Internet I couldn`t find a decent shopping cart program, so I took one that was highly recommended by my ISP (I now know the only reason they suggested it was because it made them the most money. They didn`t care if it was the best one for me or not). What a headache! The system wouldn`t do anything but take the order, but you had to have a PhD in computer science to work on it.

Here are 22 questions you absolutely, unfailingly must ask anyone trying to sell you a shopping cart. If you don`t hear positive answers to the majority of these questions, put your wallet back into your pocket and evaluate the next option. Don`t get stuck with a crappy shopping cart, even if they give it to you free.

If you have a poor shopping cart, get rid of it. I know that hurts, because you may have spent lots of time and money getting it going, but a bad one will cost you many thousands of dollars by waiting to replace it later rather than sooner.

Oh, and one more thing: if you hear the shopping cart programmer answer one of the questions below by saying, “Well, we could make it do that,” run away even faster, because you`re going to get stuck with a big custom programming bill with no guarantees that the cart is going to work the way you expected.

Every question below is very important when it comes to having a quality shopping cart system that gets more money out of the same number of visitors.

1. Will it calculate shipping and tax?

2. Does it handle specialized shipping like FedEx and UPS?

3. Will it automatically deliver hard goods and soft goods (e- books and other digital products) in the same transaction?

4. Does it offer customizable “Return to Shopping” pages without needing custom programming? This is important so you can send your customers to the most likely product they will buy next. Standard carts just send customers back to the main catalog, which forces them to search for related products. This is both irritating and time-consuming. Any delays in finding what they want could mean a lost sale, when they finally throw their hands up in disgust and move on to your competitor`s site.

5. Does it offer customizable “Thank You” pages based on what the customer just bought? These are pages where savvy marketers put affiliate links and other offers specifically related to the customer`s interests. When a customer clicks on one of these links and buys something from someone else, you get a commission.

6. Does it deliver receipt and confirmation e-mails automatically? The customer wants to know immediately that the order went through. If he or she is unsure, you are going to have to field many wasted e-mails and phone calls letting the customer know everything is OK.

7. Does it allow multiple order and dropship e-mails? In many cases, several different people in your organization and/or outside your organization need notice of an order. Again, you don`t want to have to do this manually.

8. Does it have a Web-based administration page so you can work on your cart from any computer that has Internet access?

9. Does it include encryption technology and a secure server? Many companies make a fortune by sucking you in with a cheap or free cart and then make money on selling you an overpriced secure server.

10. Does it deliver easy output to your accounting software? You want to be able to import and export data easily between the cart and whatever programs you have that need to share the customer and sales information.

11. Does it have its own associate/affiliate program or is it easily compatible with other major brands of associate software? An affiliate program lets other people promote and sell your products on their Web sites. You don`t pay them unless they sell something. When I tried to get an associate/affiliate program to work with my old cart, it cost me six months of down time and untold amounts of money lost because it wouldn`t work. The associate program people blamed the shopping cart people and vice versa. But ultimately I was left holding the bag.

12. Does it have integrated up-sell modules? The ability to offer more related products to customers making a purchase makes me a small fortune each month. We call it, “Do you want fries with that?” If you don`t have this ability, you are leaving many thousands of dollars on the table from people who would have spent more if your cart just gave them the chance.

13. Does it have an integrated sales and prospect database? In the old days I would have to print out orders and then retype them into ACT or some other database program. A good shopping cart system eliminates all this hassle and potential for error and gives you instant access to your sales reports and clients.

14. Does it have broadcast e-mail capability? Good shopping cart systems are able to manipulate your customer database instantly and send e-mails to any segment or sub-segment of your clients and handle unlimited e-mail magazines. Again, in the old days I would have to be genius enough to pick out segments of the database, export them to a file, import them into a mail program and then an hour later send the darn e-mail. Now this is all done in a few seconds.

15. Does it have mail merge capability? The e-mails sent are personalized to the recipients in any number of ways. Their names can be popped in to the subject line and in various portions of the body of the e-mail. You can merge “what they bought,” “when they bought,” “where they live” or just about anything that will make them feel the e-mail was just for them. Virtually all studies show that mail merge gets a much higher response than plain broadcast e-mail.

16. Can it handle coupons and other discounts? You can make a deal with Joe Blow that everyone coming from his Web site gets an automatic discount — either a percentage or dollar amount. This makes Joe look great to his visitors and makes more sales for you. Here`s a secret: Joe is your affiliate and makes money on the sale too, so he`s got a great incentive to keep your discounts and coupons in front of his visitors. Good shopping cart systems can automate all of this and also handle any quantity discounts you offer.

17. Can it work for multiple Web sites with no extra fees? When I first started I had to get a separate (and expensive) license for each site and a separate merchant account too. Not only was this a great deal of expense, the hassle with installation every time you wanted a new site to go up was enormous. Modern carts can sell bras on one site and bibles on another, and no one knows the difference. The carts run on their own servers so there is no expensive installation and set-up is immediate.

18. Does it have unlimited and fully integrated “sequential” autoresponders? This is one of the most powerful features when it comes to Internet marketing. This feature follows up automatically over and over again to your clients and prospects to provide them customer care and to sell them more products and services. You can even provide free or paid e-mail courses, and each part of the course is delivered automatically.

19. Does it have ad tracking tied into actual sales? Simple ad tracking can be had all over the `Net, but it is pretty much worthless unless it is tied to actual sales. This is called the “conversion ratio.” Your cart system should be able to tell you how many people clicked on a particular promotion and how many people bought. This is the only way you can determine if an ad paid off. Good carts will also automatically split test one of your sales pages against another and tell you which page sells more. You keep the page that sells more and get rid of the page that sells less.

20. Does it have a pop-up box builder? Even though many people hate popup boxes, they work. I use them judiciously to make all kinds of offers, and I have the sales figures to prove they get more money out of the same number of people. If you know how to use them properly, no one gets upset.

21. Does it have a printable off-line order form? Believe it or not, many people are still afraid to put their credit card numbers into a Web site. I still get lots of fax orders and phone orders. If you want to maximize your sales, your cart must take these kinds of orders easily.

22. Does it provide free training? You`ll need training in both the basic set up of using your shopping cart and determining your online sales strategy, so that you maximize the amount of money spent by each customer.

You may not understand what all the above questions mean right now, but I can assure you they are important in putting more money into your bank account. If you want to know even more about this subject, you can download a free e-book, How to Pick a Shopping Cart System That Makes You Money at ECommerce with Shopping Carts.

20 Website Mistakes That Cost Me Three Years And $22,000

Monday, December 15th, 2008

By: Catherine Franz

“Learn from other`s mistakes,” my Mom always advised me. Learn from mine, save three precious marketing years, tons of frustration, energy, and come out way ahead of the game. Best of all, this will not create a loss of sales, as it did for me.

1. If you use a shopping cart, check if the zip code request appears before the city and state on the order form. Most carts don`t do this. Why is this important? Because if ordering is not easy, I mean real easy, for your buyers, they drop out in the process. Ordering should be as effortless as possible for the purchaser.

If the zip code is before the city and state and is set to drop their city and state into the next two fields automatically, it saves the purchaser`s time. Believe it or not, this one “little” item leaves a memory chip and they will remember the experience in the future. Did you know that 60% of buyers opt-out and don`t complete the transaction because of the little things?

2. Do you have boxes or radial buttons that they need to check off in the ordering process? If you do, then go ahead and fill-in the checkmark “in” for them. Let them uncheck it if they do not want the choice you gave them. Again, making it easier to buy from you and reduce the chance of them leaving before completing the transaction.

If you have a questionnaire or survey form, check all the “yes” categories or one of the radial buttons for them so they don`t have to do the work. They will remember the experience as “easy” and it will be imprinted in their minds for the next purchase or experience with you.

3. Many people forget to set up the “error page” on their web site. Do not leave that to chance. Ask them questions on the error page so that you will know what occurred. Example: “Tell me how you saw this page please.” Add your e-mail address. Hyperlink the address and spell out the full address for those with different browsers. Make it easy for people to identify any errors on your web site so you can fix them quickly.

If you think that will never happen to you and that you have checked your links repeatedly, it can still happen. Software has glitches and they happen to be the best of the best. In addition, an error page is a great place to add other hyperlinked navigational bars (a list of the main areas of your web site). Also, offer an opportunity for them to enroll in your ezine here as well.

4. Omit the metaphors. Most adults do not have the time or the patience to play games on the Internet. If your market is teens, this is a different story. Teenagers will enjoy the entertainment.

If you offer an entertaining feature on your site, you will need to carryout the theme throughout your site, otherwise they will leave as soon as it stops. This has occurred quite often lately as professionals add video to their site (considered entertainment) and then the rest of the site is flat. They get a lot of hits to the video and then no response on the call to action that they have set up.

5. Please do not activate “under construction” pages. Wait until the page is ready and then upload it. If you are using FrontPage, you can remove it from the Navigational system by right clicking on the page and turning it off.

6. Don`t beat around the bush with your visitors. Make your message so clear that even a ten year old will understand it. Make the language conversational — easy English.

7. Make your “buy me” buttons “Amazon” blue. Backed by good research, Amazon has trained millions of their visitors in this color and in their design style. Use their success to your advantage. Visit http://www.amazon.com to see what “Amazon” blue looks like.

8. Do you offer a search form on your site? You need to. Once again — making it easy for your visitors to find the information they want quickly. Here is a tip that I learned only a few months ago that has paid big since. After all I have read and learned over the past 10 years, nothing was every mentioned about this. When someone searches for something and it is not found, set up a default-selling page.

Here are a few ideas on how to use the default page when their search comes up empty. Offer them a 10% coupon for something else, or for anything on your site. Tell them this is a one-time offer (they will not know otherwise). On the other hand, you could provide a list of available discounts or offer them a choice of sections to proceed to. Do not let them get the “Can`t find a match” message at any time.

9. When collecting visitor information for your database, do it one step at a time. Do not try to do everything at once. If you offer an ezine, the first step is to ask for their e- mail address only. After they type that in, take them to another page to answer questions.

Alternatively, you can send them an auto responder asking them questions. Better yet, send them to a survey page after they have subscribed to your newsletter. You will enjoy an increase in subscribers and survey submissions.

10. If you use drop down menus for your states or countries, remove them. “Techies” like drop down menus, but visitors don`t. Let the visitor type in their state and country. It is ten times faster and much easier than looking through a long list searching for a state and country. Even if the United States is at the top, it still makes the buyer search.

11. The best way to give your visitors what they want is to keep it simple. This is especially true for the landing page of your web site. The landing page is your main or index page.

What do you want your visitors to do when they reach your site? If they are there to subscribe to your ezine (electronic newsletter), send them to that page by giving them that immediate option. Then send them to a page that focuses them on subscribing. Give them all the information they need to make a choice and to subscribe. If they are first-time visitors, where do they click first?

For example, if you are a coach, ask them if they want to know more about coaching. If you are a virtual assistant (VA), send them to a page or two about what a VA does and how you help your clients. After they get to the next page, give them choice of different areas where you can help them as a virtual assistant or a coach.

Walk them through the process in steps, “hold their hand” as you lead them through all the things that you can do for them. Create a walk-through easy-to-follow effect. It will pay off in profits.

12. Do not add any pages to the site that do not pertain to the visitors` reasons for coming to your site. People do not have time for irrelevant information.

13. You do not need an engineer or a web site designer to design your website. In fact, while they would not like to hear this, you do not need them. They may do everything right technically, but they do not know how to get people to stay at your site or buy from you.

Marketers know how to do that. While 98% of engineers and web site designer claim they are marketers, less than 1% know anything about marketing. The truly rare commodity is a fantastic marketer who is savvy about web site design.

Building your site is just like building a house: without an architect who knows about layout, structure air flow, etc., all you have is a construction company building the house from their sense of style, direction and beliefs.

Know where the advice is coming from and hire them only for their expertise. If you are reading an article on marketing on the Internet that was written by someone who is a web site designer, a red flag should go up.

If you are talking with a marketer who does not have web site design experience and you are looking for help in building your web site, raise that flag again. The rare person with the unique combination may be hard to find, but we exist — I designed my learning to be one of those rare ones.

I have helped many people clean up their web site after they have worked with web designers and/or marketers. And trust me, the clean up is more time consuming than starting all over.

14. Don`t make your buyer feel stupid while they are in the process of buying from you — in the “cart” process. Internet service providers (ISPs and web site hosts) do this frequently. Just one example of this is when they ask their nontechie buyers the option, “Choose your server”

The majority of their buyers have no idea what this means. They do not understand that you are asking if they want a Unix or Windows based system. Moreover, even these same buyers are asked in this manner, they still do not have any clue what are the advantages or disadvantages of either one.

So, they feel stupid. You will lose more buyers with questions like this. The buyer feels frustrated and 99% of the time leaves without buying. Look on your site, are you asking any questions that make the buyers or visitors feel stupid?

15. The most common place to click on any web page is the top left-hand corner. Put the choice to go to the next page or to pick the most popular page or product in this location. If the purpose of the page/site is different, you may want to put the back and forward buttons there.

Don`t put graphics, especially your logo, on the upper left hand corner. This is prime real estate for your website. If you have a retail site, place your top-selling item in this space or a drop down menu of three of the top selling items.

16. Answer the visitors` main questions in one easy-to-find and readable paragraph. Don`t make the font too small to read and do not make it go across the page requiring the reader to scroll. I`ve seen young web site designers use small fonts on their website which wants to attract a market that`s in their 40s and 50s. Fact, the older you get the bigger the font.

17. Don`t talk down to your visitors. They are intelligent people who will not stand for it. They will leave and never come back. There is a difference in talking down and presenting a conversational style. Talking down is like explaining it to your child; the other is like talking to another adult. Technical people have a big tendency to talk down to nontechnical people.

18. Make it easy for them to share their comments with you. Whether it is about a hyperlink that does not work or other errors they have found. They may want to tell how much they appreciated your information. Create a place on every page where they can feel comfortable about submitting their comments. Comfortable also means that they have a choice on whether to send their contact information or not.

19. Organize your site from the visitors` point of view. If you are not sure, ask some typical visitors. “What questions did they have when they landed on the first page?”, is a great question to start. Get them to walk you through their thinking. You will pick up some patterns after the first three or four. This is the best research you can do and it will save you years of revisions.

Do not ask family members or friends. Ask clients who have just finished visiting your site. They are familiar visitors and they will want something different from a new visitor. You need to set up your landing page to handle both familiar and new visitors without being confusing.

20. One of the most valuable pages in a web site that is sadly overlooked is the “thank you” page. If someone signs up for your ezine or places an order, include a popup saying “thank you for visiting.” Use whatever way you can think says it best, but don`t leave it out. The other half of this equation is not to loose the opportunity to cross sell or up sell on the thank you page.

First, say thank you and then give them an offer they cannot refuse. On the thank you page, you can provide a coupon for 10 percent off on anything in the store or 10 percent off on any overstocked or limited stock item.

Now that you have these tips on what mistakes not to make, you need to put them into practice. Choose three and start completing them. Then move on to the next three and keep moving through the list. You will be excited of the results.

Bonus Tip 1: 60% of the buyers opt out of purchasing a product on the Internet in between the first cart processing page and the last page. It is usually because it took too many clicks to complete the transaction or it took too much time to think about it or to make choices. Check your web site and eliminate any obstacles or places that do this so you can reduce this percentage on your web site.

Bonus Tip 2: If you have questions on your page, divide them into categories and don`t put them all on one page. Spread them out between pages. It looks easier and faster to the person answering the questions. Give them an incentive to move from one page to the next and give them encouragement between the incentives.

Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative to Reduce Mexico’s Tourism Revenues by a Scant 2.2 Percent Th

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which now requires air travelers returning to the United States from Mexico to show a valid passport, is expected to reduce Mexico’s international tourism revenues by only 2.2 percent this year, Tourism Secretary Rodolfo Elizondo said.

Elizondo took his calculations from estimates released by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Office of Homeland Security, which projected that 318,000 American travelers would cancel or fail to book trips to Mexico as a result of the passport requirement.

Given that some 5.3 million of the 21.3 million international tourists visiting Mexico in 2006 were Americans traveling by air, spending an average of US$798 per stay, the resulting US$254 million in lost revenue will amount to only 2.2 percent of the US$11.6 billion in international tourism revenues his country expected to post for the year, he explained.

Mexico’s Tourism Secretary added that the number of Americans who traveled to Mexico by air and did not have passports dropped to merely six percent by January 2007, in part due to an informational campaign launched in October 2006 by the Mexico Tourism Board with the support of tour operators, travel agents and other travel industry representatives.

The initiatives implemented or planned by Mexico to educate consumers about the United States’ new passport requirement have included news releases, micromedia flashes; information packets; consumer contests and events; and promotional materials, such as passport holders. The MTB also added the slogan “We want you back in Mexico. Please get a passport” to its advertising in an attempt to entice U.S. citizens to obtain their passports.

In addition to the Mexico Tourism Board’s efforts, destinations that receive large numbers of American tourists are also doing their part to educate Americans about the law. The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched “V.I.P., Very Important Passport” program encouraging U.S. visitors to spread the word. The campaign will include posters created for high-traffic U.S. vacationer sites that include relevant U.S. passport information and the U.S. Department of State website address. They have also distributed hundreds of thousands of informational coupons about the new passport requirement, some of which are imprinted by local retailers with an individual message of their own, ranging from a discount to special value offer.

“Our campaign will reach virtually every American visitor vacationing in Cancun for the next three months,” said Artemio Santos, chief executive officer for the Cancun CVB. “We are providing tourism businesses like hotels, restaurants, shops, and attractions with the necessary information and tools to reach visitors to Cancun several times during an individual vacationer’s stay. This is a destination-wide undertaking,” said Santos.

Tour operators and travel agents are also strategizing to educate their customers on the new law. Funjet, one of the top U.S. tour operators for Mexico, has created an online program to inform travel agents on the new requirements and how to reach out to their customers proactively regarding passports. The program includes guidelines for organizing “passport parties” for consumers, designed to facilitate passport processing for people who have traveled to Mexico in the past with other forms of identification. Additionally, Apple Vacations has initiated a promotion for a free passport with the slogan, “You fly, we buy.”

The WHTI will not go into effect until 2008 for cruise passengers and 2009 for road travelers. For more information, please visit http://travel.state.gov/passport and www.visitmexico.com.

22. Is It Wrong To Become Angry?

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

We are being taught to live consciously and to watch and control our emotions.
But what happens if somebody really annoys you, or if somebody makes a nasty and hurting remark.
Is it wrong to become angry then?

Well, the answer to that is a bit more complicated then just giving you a “Yes” or a “No”.

To begin with you have to have a good look inside of yourself and be honest about what you find in there. You will have to ask yourself: “Am I an angry person? Am I someone who easily becomes angry and maybe even a bit easier than other people?

If you can answer this question with Yes, then it’s likely that you have unconsciously learned to identify yourself with anger, which over a longer period of time becomes an addiction.

Biochemical scientists have established that when we humans have a thought this creates an overwhelming amount of chemicals, that try to convince us that we actually ARE our thought.

You will recognize that when you do become angry you can literally feel it racing through your body. Well that is this chemical reaction.

The more we run into and create situations in which we can become angry, the more we start to satisfy our body with this addictive chemical.
Each time we identify with the feeling of anger we are building up an energetic charge within our system, which of course also needs to be discharged from time to time.

And this is exactly what takes place when we meet another person who makes us angry. Of course this other person has a certain energy around him/her that can have an effect on us too, but in general it’s the information of the other person that resonates with the charge that is built up inside of us.
Our charge is being triggered by what the other person says or does and before we realize it, our reaction will be there and we get totally lost in the feeling of our anger. It’s completely taking possession of us, so to speak.

Now, what can we do about this? Here are some self motivation tips you can use to do some self-motivation exercise with. That’s the way to obtain the necessary self motivation skills.

The first thing we need to become aware of, is that we should not take our upcoming feeling in a personal way, nor should we judge it or be afraid of it. After all we HAVE the feeling, it’s not so that we ARE the feeling.

For example: You feel angry, but in fact you ARE not angry, because after all you DIDN’T feel angry UNTIL you met the person in question.
The minute you start noticing the truth in this you will notice that your anger will disappear after a few minutes, simply because YOU changed your relationship to that what you felt.

Don’t forget that each one of us experiences the things that happen in our lives in our own unique way. Our individual experiences are defined by our personality, our ego and our own idea of who we are, which is the sum of all our experiences, fears, patterns, beliefs and convictions.

All this says something about HOW we experience certain things, but it says nothing about WHAT we truly experience.
It has to do with how we have learned to protect ourselves from things we were afraid of when we were little kids.
In other words someone who makes us angry actually triggers something we have learned to react to when we were very young. So we need to stop judging or blaming the outside world for how we feel.

There is no such thing as the horrible parent, the bad spouse or the irritating boss or colleague at work.
We determine how we experience the world around us and that is a unique experience for each one of us.

A Buddhist friend of mine said it like this: Try to see it as if we are a spider’s web through which the wind blows freely. The web feels and experiences the wind completely, but nothing gets stuck in the web.

Vedic Astrology Lesson 22

Friday, November 28th, 2008

When I went to Google and searched New Age, 5 million sites
opened up. When I typed Pagan and searched, out came one
million pagan sites! You can imagine the tremendous
spiritual renaissance & demand for philosophies that are
Druid, Celtic, Norse & Vedic. The New Age was ushered by
Free Masonry & other Western mystic schools of thought. It
is closely related to the Vedic !

The Effect of the 8th lord in many houses

The 8th house is very important in VA. It represents Death
and the causes of Death. If the 8th lord is weak, longevity
of the native is threatened. If on the other hand, the 8th
lord is powerful, then high longevity is decreed, provided
there is no malefic aspect on the 8th house

Effects of the 8th lord in the First House

As the 8th lord is in the ascendant, the native will scoff
at religious rituals & practices. They may be afflicted by
physical ailments right from childhood. May have to suffer
bodily complaints from diseases or disfiguration. They may
have a physical constitution which appe- ars weak. They
become the victim of governmental displeasure. Also the
displeasure of their superiors. They are adamant and very
dete- rmined in their goal and they work incessantly for
it.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Second House

As the 8th lord is in the 2nd, the native is not robust
physically They have to consult an ENT doctor. They may
have to put up with food of inferior quality. It is better
that they preserve and protect their wealth as regaining it
becomes difficult. Normally they will not look elsewhere
for fulfillment as they get good ego sati- sfaction from
their partner. They will have to incorporate patience and
perseverance when their partner becomes emotional over some
imagined affairs.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Third House

As the 8th lord is in the 3rd, ear problems are to be
expected. Consulting an ENT doctor is good in order to
avoid problems pertaining to ear. It is difficut for them
to entertain personal friendship. They do not like social
occasions & will withdraw themselves within. Only if they
have identical interests do they mingle with anyone.Tension
builds up as they do not discuss their feelings, fears &
mental agony with anyone. It is quite possible that they
may suffer from hallucination. It is possible that a
monetary windfall awaits them from literary work.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Fourth House

As the 8th lord is in the 4th, the native miss maternal
proximity. They may be away from home. They are full of
love and selfcontrol They have a habit of giving these
emotions only to those who are close to them. They are in
two minds about a person whether he is a god or a demon. As
a result their mental peace is far from satisfactory.
Fiscal problems are accompanied by domestic bickerings. They
may be worried on account of parent`s health. Problems
related to house will be automatically solved by them.
Reverses in profession and the displeasure of seniors may
have to be faced with true fortitude.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Fifth House

As the 8th lord is in the 5th, the native will be subject to
dire vicissitudes. Their good actions and altruistic
behaviour may go unnoticed and this gives them the creeps.
Their mental processes are dynamic and sudden. They are
extremists by nature and are intense about everything –
intensely ruthless, intensely loyal, intensely
compassionate and intensely cool. They do not do anything
half heartedly. Child mortality and sickness of children
create worries in their psyche. They have to achieve mental
equanimity in order to avoid nervous debility.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Sixth House

As the 8th lord is in 6th, the native will experience
Vipareetha Raja Yoga results. Affluence and the fulfillment
of all desires are some of the resultant results. As the
6th rules diseases they may be attacked by illhealth at
times. There is phobia in them about future health hazards.
It is quite possible that they may lose money due to theft
and litigation. Maternal uncle`s health causes concern.
They overcome all such troubles due to sheer will power.
They ulimately win over enemies. They can be extremely
domineering and proud.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Seventh House

As the 8th lord is in the 7th, the native should incorporate
courage to face disharmonies in married life. They and
their spouse are diff- erent in motivation & personality
and they have to understand that different minds have
different perspectives. They may not know much about their
spouse and their mental makeup also is not known to their
partner. Both of them may not take the trouble of finding
out either. They do not at all like to lose and do not
believe in strategic retreat. Their longevity may be
curtailed and they may suffer in health.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Eighth House

As the 8th lord is in the 8th, tremendous longevity will be
conferred. They may have to face scandals & even criticism.
They will have the active support of their partner. In
early life their father will have to pass through a
crisis. The jealous will invent stories & create problems
for them. But they will overcome all these with the active
support of their partner. They will have self control. When
their enemies try their patience they will need plenty of
it. Otherwise they may indulge in unethical and sinful
acts. People will wonder how they got out of the net of
their enemies.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Ninth House

As the 8th lord is in the 9th the native is averse to
surrendering their personality to one Religion or one
individual. They may not as a result get complete loyalty
from others. They have to under- stand that their spouse
wants to know what they are doing most of the time. They
appear to be always youthful and charming. Too much
independence early in life can create its own confusion.
This is a lesson which must be learnt and this applies to
your children also. Relations with father may be strained.
Unluck and luck fluctuate.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Tenth House

As the 8th lord is in the 10th, the native tend to be with
their pare- nts. They may have to face stiff competition
from a cunning sub – ordinate. They are capable of coping
with any problem situation. But once they are warned it
creates doubt in their mind and this doubt destroys the
ability to solve the problem. Despite the obs- tacles they
face they will achieve progress in their career. In or- der
to handle the cunning subordinate they may go and adopt
unfair and deceiptful practices. This may pave the way for
the wrath of the Govt or the Law. Avoid unfair means.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Eleventh House

As the 8th lord is in the 11th, the native will achieve more
ego- satisfaction during adulthood despite having miseries
during ear- ly childhood. They will be hailed as
accomplished raconteurs. It is difficult for anyone not to
fall in love with them. They also have to use exceptional
talents to maintain that. Undoubtedly they have immense
self control. They will need it and will have to use it
when their spouse tries their patience with lack of adapta-
bility and understanding.Their partner becomes a challenge
to your managerial skills. Relations with elder brother may
be strained.

The Effect of the 8th lord in the Twelfth House

As the 8th lord is in the 12th, the native will be seized
with an abnormal desire to spend on unwanted things &
dissipate his/her energies. Tremendous appeal will be
generated by them which few members of the opposite sex can
resist. They have to understand that they are the cause if
they are caught with bad health and deteriorating bank
balance. They are capable of achieving good matrimonial
rapport if they and their spouse take the trouble They may
have to face many troubles & turmoils as life becomes
plagued by miseries.

Reflections on Matthew 22: 15 – 22

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

The Pharisees were against paying taxes to Caesar. In Rome, Caesar was considered a deity or divine god to the Romans. If the Pharisees will pay taxes to Caesar, then it is like they are accepting or paying homage to a god – an unwanted god! On the other hand, the Herodians pay taxes to Caesar. Herod was a political leader whose power came from Caesar. Since he was under the Romans, he has to pay taxes or contributions to Caesar (it usually happens to countries colonized by a much powerful nation) much to the dismay of the people since they are once more back to being bossed around by foreigners after enjoying brief freedom gained during the Maccabean era.
If you will read this bible reading, you will notice that Jesus does not object the power of Caesar because He knows that Caesar’s power is only political. I think that the Jews in the past are a bit confused since they are thinking that politics and religion are in some ways connected or even one. That is, one cannot be independent without the other.
This confusion still exists today not only in the Jewish faith but to other religion as well. For example, some politicians do believe that women should have liberty to choose whether to abort her child or not. But the Catholic Church, as well as other religion too, is against to that notion. The politicians will justify themselves by using democracy and free will in their arguments. The Church will also justify its stand by using morality and spirituality in their argument. This is one issue out of a hundred that further separates politics and religion.
The lesson that I learned after reading this bible passage is to pray to God always for assistance and direction. If you put God in the Center of your being, you will always make the right decision.

Featured Prayer:
O St. Jude Thaddeus
Thou relative of Jesus Christ, thou glorious apostle and martyr, renowned for thy virtues and miracles, faithful and prompt intercessor of all who honor thee and trust in thee! Thou art a powerful patron and helper in grievous afflictions. I come to thee and entreat thee from the very depths of my heart; come to my aid with thy powerful intercession, for thou hast received from God the privilege to assist with thy manifest help, those who almost despair of all hope. Look down upon me; my life is a life of crosses, my days are days of tribulation and my heart is an ocean of bitterness. All my paths are strewn with thorns and scarcely one moment passes but is witness of my tears and sighs; uneasiness, discouragement, mistrust and almost despair prey upon my soul. Thou canst not forsake me in this sad plight. I will not depart from thee until thou hast heard me. Oh! Hasten to my aid, I will be grateful to thee all my life. I will honor thee as my special patron, I will thank God for the graces bestowed upon thee and will encourage devotion to thee according to my power. Amen.
St. Jude, Pray for us!
And for those who invoke thy aid!

Reflections on Matthew 22: 23 – 40 The Resurrection of the Dead

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Read Matthew 22: 23 – 40

In the reading, it was stated that the Sadducees claimed that there is no resurrection. They tied to trap Jesus in His own words by asking Him who rightfully owns the woman who was seven times married on different occasions to seven brothers. From the way they questioned Jesus, it was obvious that they think resurrection to be a continuation of one’s life on earth. They thought that the woman will continue being a wife to her husband, that’s why they asked Him who rightfully owns her.
The soul is sometimes conceived to be a part of one’s body or something in us. But this conception is wrong in the sense that the soul is a complete personification of our self. It’s for eternity, unlike our body which is considered temporary only.
Thus, Jesus answered the tricky question of the Sadducees by explaining to them that if one dies, he/she will become like the angels. No family ties exist, only equality, happiness and contentment with God. Jesus also explained that God is not the God of the dead but of the living.
I believe that some people think that if one dies, he/she is completely destroyed and will not continue living or he/she will continue living similar to his/her ways on earth. Jesus corrected that notion by allowing our soul to survive, not to continue doing its accustomed ways on earth, but to live in harmony with God’s ways.

Busy, Working Parents — 22 Ways To Homeschool Your Kids

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

If you`re a single parent or a married couple on a tight budget so that both parents have to work, you may worry about finding the time and energy to homeschool your children, but it can be done. It comes down to planning and scheduling your time.

Most home-schooling parents teach their children about two to four hours a day and turn out well-educated kids. So the problem is how to squeeze in about ten to twenty hours a week for home-schooling. Here are some suggestions:

1. Can you change your work schedule so that you can work in the afternoon or at night and teach your children in the morning?

2. Can you work part time, leaving yourself time for home-schooling?

3. Can you find a job in your local neighborhood so that you don`t waste one to three hours commuting every day?

4. Can you work from home? Computers, the Internet, fax machines, and e-mail all make working from home relatively easy. Thousands of companies now offer this option to their workers. You could offer to work for slightly less money if your boss resists this arrangement.

5. Can you start a simple-to-run home business that would give you more free time.

6. Can you do all your home-schooling on weekends? If you can arrange concentrated six-to-ten-hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday, you`ll be free to work at your job during the rest of the week. Or you might try a combination of weekday and weekend home-schooling sessions.

7. If you have no other alternatives, home-schooling could be done in the evening, say from 7 to 10 P.M., or a combination of weekday nights and weekend sessions.

8. If you`re married, get your husband or wife to help with the workload. Both parents should be involved in home-schooling if possible.

In my book, “Public Schools, Public Menace,” I describe 22 ways that parents can homeschool their children, even if both parents work. Almost a million parents now homeschool their kids, and most of these parents work. You can do the same.
