If Fast Food is a Must, Make the Healthiest Possible Choices

I was out recently with some friends and we stopped at a fast food joint. I hate fast food joints, but sometimes everybody else wants to go there, so you just have to make the best of it and find something at least somewhat healthy. If you`re forced to eat fast-food, here`s a tip to make sure that you`re not doing much damage to your body…ALWAYS AVOID the soda and anything deep fried including french fries, hash browns, and anything breaded like chicken nuggets, chicken patties, or breaded fish sandwiches. These are all absolutely soaked in deadly trans fats from the industrial hydrogenated vegetable oils they use to fry all of these items.

Remember, as I`ve said before, I`ve seen studies indicating that as little as 1 gram of trans fat per day can have serious degenerative internal effects in your body such as inflammation, clogging and hardening of the arteries, heart disease, various forms of cancer…not to mention packing on the ab flab. That`s as little as 1 gram! Consider that a typical fast-food meal of a breaded chicken sandwich (or fish sandwich), along with an order of fries can contain as much as 10 grams of trans fat! Add on a cookie or small piece of pie for dessert (which are usually made with deadly margarine or shortening), and now you`re up to about 13 grams of trans fat with that entire meal. If 1 gram a day is slowly killing you, imagine what 13 grams is doing! And that was only one meal that you ate. Some people are consuming 20-30 grams of trans fat per day, and not even realizing what they`re doing to themselves internally. Please realize that nobody, I mean NOBODY, is looking out for your health, except for YOU.

Anyway, back to the topic of how to avoid this stuff and eat a reasonably healthy meal on the rare occasion that you`re forced to eat fast-food. As for drinks, avoid the sodas…they`re nothing but heavily processed high fructose corn syrup which will surely end up as extra belly fat. Water is always the best drink, but if you need something with flavor, try unsweetened or lightly sweetened iced tea. At breakfast, the best choice is an egg, ham, and cheese on an english muffin (not on a croissant, which is full of nasty trans!), or a fruit & nut salad. At lunch or dinner, the best choices are a grilled chicken sandwich, the chili, a grilled chicken salad without croutons (again…croutons = more trans), or even just a plain cheeseburger. The main take-away point from this little fast-food article is that the nastiest stuff at these fast food joints are the sodas and fries, and any other deep fried items.

For any of you that have seen the movie “Super-Size Me”, you saw how eating fast food every day absolutely destroyed that guy`s health, but did you happen to notice the one guy that was the king of eating big macs (or some kind of burger)? I don`t remember what kind of burger it was, but basically this guy has eaten these fast food burgers almost every day of his life for the past 30 years or something like that. Did you notice that he stated that he almost never eats the fries or soda, even though he eats the burgers every day? And he`s not necessarily overweight. Now I`m not saying that fast-food burgers made with their refined white bread and low quality beef and cheese are the healthiest thing, but the point is…it`s the fries and sodas that are the real health disaster.

This meal and snack breakdown is the long awaited solution to the “diet” dilemma which enables to make balanced food choices from all food groups without cutting out any food group, counting calories or counting grams of this or that. Improve the choices of food ingredients from food you currently cook or choose while eating out and NEVER DIET AGAIN.

Breakfast:

Sample Choice #1:

Ask yourself, “What makes me not want to take action now and start changing my life for the better?” Here are some common barriers or excuses that many people claim:

• “I have no time.” Solution: If this is your answer because you work long hours and you have to juggle responsibilities between home, work and family then you and millions like you have legitimate time issues, you have my full respect and understanding because believe me I can relate with my 80 hour work weeks. Not making changes to the better in your lifestyle is no excuse either and no you do not have to diet and you do not have to go out of your way to “exercise.” Remember your good health is so precious and that is what is enabling you juggle all these responsibilities.

• Without your good health you will not be able to juggle anything. So here is the solution. Regarding food intake, all you need is to preplanned and make more favorable food selections, starting from your weekly supermarket trips and take these high fiber snacks with you to work and learn how to make healthier food choices when you eat out without affecting the quality or taste of food. This will be discussed in detail in the next upcoming food section and you will have lots of tips at your disposal and you will generate your own ideas as well. Regarding activity, you do not need to be going to the gym for two hours a session in order to benefit; but rather, the gym is everywhere you are. Increase the amount of walking you do at work, home and while shopping. For more tips on this, check out “Tips on How to Increase Daily Activity” in the activity section.

• “I have no willpower necessary to lose weight.” Solution: You don’t need any. You are not starting a diet and you are not expected to muster all your effort to remain without a certain food for any period of time, and you are not required to run in the next marathon. The answer is to make small actions daily to the better and gradually improve those choices of actions. All that is required from you is to make better food, snack, beverage and activity choices, and when you “mess up,” make a better choice the next time. You will notice that the more you exercise your ability to make good choices that your choices will regularly keep improving.

• “I have failed before, and I am tired of trying to lose weight.” Solution: Name one person in our Universe (The Earth and surrounding planets) who has not failed in one way or another. Success comes after failure and the bigger the failure, the bigger the success. The glass is always half full. Though losing weight and keeping it off is no simple matter, those who have succeeded kept trying until they won. Those who have control over their weight have dropped the “diet” concept. See the section “The Habits of People Who Lost Weight and Kept It Off” which you will find later in this section. This applies to smokers as well. Most of those who quit permanently did so after several failed attempts.

• “I have no money. I am on a fixed budget.” Solution: You do not need any additional money. There is no need for gym membership, no need to invest in equipment, no need to blow your budget on expensive “Quick Weight Loss” products, “diet pills”, or “diet club” memberships. All you need to do is to increase the number of daily steps, make better food selections at the supermarket, at home, while eating out and at work, as will be discussed in the food section. In the Activity section in Action Step 4 of this guide activity tips are covered in detail.

• “I’m not athletic. I don’t like to exercise.” Solution: No one is asking you to be athletic or to love “exercising”. If you notice, I have not used the word “exercise” in this guide for fear of discouraging those who “don’t like to exercise.” There are misconceptions about how much activity is needed for good health and weight loss. Actually, not much is needed. Just increase your total activity and walking intermittently throughout the entire day to about 30 or 45 minutes. You can accomplish anything you want especially if it is that simple.

Mesothelioma prognosis looks dark under the probes of statistics. Under the microscope of clinical trials, however, the prognosis for a longer and more enjoyable life while living with Mesothelioma looks significantly brighter. Research has shown that patients with mesothelioma have higher levels of a natural bodily chemical VEGF – a chemical that controls blood vessels. Anti-angiogenic therapy focuses on blocking the VEGF that supports the blood vessels that encourage the cancer’s growth. Bevacizumab is a cancer drug used for this purpose, and clinical studies combining Bevacizumab, Gemcitabine and Cisplatin are currently being evaluated.

What are your debt relief choices when you find yourself in debt that you cannot handle? There are five of them, let`s take a look at each.

Number one, you can tap the equity you have available in your home to pay off your credit cards. This way, proponents say, you can then write the payments you make towards your debt off of your income taxes. This is true, but usually what happens is that a person takes out a home equity loan, pays off their cards, then runs them right back up again. Now they have a home equity payment plus new debt. Default on the home equity loan, they could loose their home.

Ok, number two. A consumer credit counseling service (or cccs). These companies will negotiate with your creditors to remove late payments and interest. In return, you agree to pay off the total amount owed within a certain time frame. Trouble with this one is that many people find they cannot keep up with the steep new monthly payment, and end up dropping out.

Number 3. Debt settlement. With a debt settlement, you and your creditors come to an agreement where you will pay a certain percentage of your total debt. Usually this is done in one lump sum, or a few months` payments. Your credit score will take a hit. If you can afford this type of debt relief, it may be the best one.

Number 4. Bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is simply a debtor telling their creditors that they cannot pay. The debtor may or may not be able to wipe their debt clean. A bankruptcy will stay with you for ten years, and make it very difficult to get a loan or other credit. Sometimes though, it is the only option.

Number 5, disconnect the phone, and stop answering the door. Do nothing, don`t pay. Good luck.
