Economy car rental holidays: travel South Africa

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Economy car rental has come a long way and today, car hire in South Africa represents an affordable transportation option for both tourists and locals alike. Whether you are looking to go on an extended road trip around the country or merely need a vehicle to get you from point A to point B, car rental companies in South Africa are bound to have a package that is right for you.

A diverse and beautiful country, South Africa holds many wonders for the discerning traveller. Why not try a nice leisurely road trip along the Eastern Coast for your next holiday? It is not called the Sunshine coast for nothing and travelling in this lovely part of the country will give you plenty of opportunities to soak up some culture and experience the legendary local hospitality.

Start your trip in Cape Town. Car hire in Cape Town, South Africa is safe and reliable. If you are coming in by plane, you can organise an airport car rental which is an excellent way of avoiding the unnecessary hassle of hailing a taxi-cab to initially ferry you about. The Mother City provides travellers with a whole host of accommodation options, but some come more highly recommended than others. If you are looking for luxury, you’ll probably enjoy a stay at the stately Mount Nelson Hotel. Alternatively, The Guesthouse Es-Cape represents the cosier end of the accommodation spectrum. Once you’re booked in, get your walking shoes on and start exploring. Go for a ride on the Table Mountain Cable Cars; head out to the Constantia Valley for some wine tasting or simply stroll around Green Market Square, picking up bits and bobs for family and friends back home.

The next leg of our South African adventure takes us to Hermanus. A charming seaside village on the Southern Coast, this town is home to the legendary Whale Festival. With its unparalleled scenic beauty, upmarket shops and endless adventure options, it’s little wonder that Hermanus has grown exponentially in size and popularity during the last decade. Stop in at Rossi’s Italian restaurant and dig into a steaming bowl of pasta before setting out for a whale watching cruise with Walker Bay Adventures.

Next, turn your economy car rental in the direction of Knysna. One of the Garden Route´s most famous travel destinations, Knysna is situated between lush forests and the shores of a peaceful estuary, offering many activities and attractions. Book in at the Blue Oyster B&B and set out for the Knysna Elephant Park. Here you can experience the famous Knysna forest alongside African elephants and enjoy a guided nature walk through the indigenous foliage at elephant pace. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to follow in the footsteps of these incredible creatures. Round off this spiritual experience with sundowners at The Knysna Oyster Company.

We end our brief coastal trip in Port Elizabeth. Recently renamed Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth is regarded as the “official” gateway to the scenic Eastern Cape Province and the world renowned Garden Route. The Admiralty Beach House provides affordable, yet comfortable, luxury self-catering units with en suite bathrooms, separate entrances and private patios – perfect if you don’t want to be tied down with dining schedules and the like. Port Elizabeth’s Oceanarium is simply a must on any animal lover’s itinerary. Their wildly popular dolphin and seal performances take place at 11h00 and 15h00 daily, after which you can head over to the Butcher’s Block for a bite to eat.

At this stage it might be a good idea to have a professional take a look at your car hire. Port Elizabeth has many reputable mechanical establishments and it’s always a good idea to take proper care of your economy car rental, lest you have to pay hefty surcharges at the end of your trip!

I have been considering car hire SA and came across some interesting economy car rental options online.

Trying To IUncover The Right Product For The Holidays? Consider This

Monday, January 12th, 2009

With internet commerce growing steadily for the past decade and a half, there has been a huge increase in the number of consumer review sites. These sites review the products of certain industries. The combination of professional recommendations and consumer opinions has grown exceedingly more popular over recent years. However, are the views of these sites honest, or are they simply a veiled sales approach?

As more and more review sites pop up daily, how is a person to understand which websites have their best interest at heart? While solving this very riddle can be unnerving there are always a few basic evaluation tools to consider. The material of the sites is usually a dead give away.

First and foremost, examine how many products are being reviewed on the sites. If the number of reviews is numerous it increases the chances that the site’s recomendation is valid. A site that is only examining three to five products, chances are the products have been selected for a reason. The proprietor of the review site may have an affiliate relationship with the merchant, influencing their recommendation. While this relationship alone does not disvalue the endorsement it certainly is one factor to think about when evaluating a site’s validity.

Secondly, take a look at the photos and testimonials provided on the site. If you find that a number of review sites all share the same photos and personal testimonials, it is possible that this marketing material was provided by the merchant themselves, making the opinion expressed on the site a direct extension of the merchant. Now this does not mean product images of course, however it does mean many of the graphics. You should also examine the written text of the site, is it unique? A truthful site should have an opinion of its own, not sharing the opinion of other review sites, word for word. So take the time to recognize similarities amongst review sites, in terms of the same product.

The next thing to consider in your search to find honest reviews is much more obvious. Does every product reviewed on that site rank well? The reason for a consumer review site is not to simply endorse every single product; it is to establish which products work the best. If every review claims that particular product as effective, you may need to question the authenticity of the website. Logic tells you that a unique product must have different results than the next, and the chances that all five products reviewed working exaclty the same seems a stretch.

Using these 3 criteria as a format to finding the honest consumer review site will help you get a better understanding as to which site provides you the most insight. As with most evaluation tools, this advice is not black and white. Try to follow your instincts. And while each one of these examples in and of itself, can not determine the validity of a consumer review site the combination of these items on any given site; however, may indicate your need to continue your search for a review site.

Green Friendly Holidays For 2009

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Sugar white sand beaches and azure waters are conjured up by many when they consider a holiday on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.

And the picture would be right, Gran Canaria is paradise for those who love their beach holidays.

However, there is more to Gran Canaria than beaches – it`s a perfect destination for those who enjoy nature and a natural environment.

The island is rich in natural resources and its vast terrain tantalizes eco-adventurers of all types. The island has been designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO for this reason. Thanks to this special status, Gran Canaria will remain an ecological preserve for the rest of its days. It also ensures harmonious balance between nature and the interests of man, which still allows villa holidays in Gran Canaria for example.

Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands archipelago. Located 130 miles off the African coast, it has been a Spanish territory since the 15th century. The island bears a rich history dating back to 500 B.C. This is when it was first inhabited by the Canarios. Traces of their culture still remain throughout the Canary Islands.

The island has a full time population of about 800,000. However, tourism boosts the number closer to a million or more at any given time. Close to a half of the island`s regular residents live in the capital city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The rest of its residents are scattered throughout the island`s 21 municipalities and 1552 square kilometers.

While its beaches may be its top tourist draw, Gran Canaria is also known for its breathtaking volcanoes. In fact, the island itself is of volcanic origin. Its numerous fissure vents make this fact evident to visitors and residents alike.

An aerial view reveals that volcanic craters or calderas dot the surface of the island. One of these is the Caldera de Bandama, dating back to 20 B.C. Though it is one of the island`s smaller ones, the caldera covers a staggering one kilometer and a depth of 200 meters. Originally a double cinder cone, the caldera formed later on. Caldera de los Marteles is another of the island`s astounding sites. This crater formed over 100,000 years ago and now appears as a lush, green circular field.

Additional ecological gems include the island`s 290 caves located in the Cenobio de Valeron. This preserve is actually a massive basaltic arch. Inside, early setters known as the Guanche excavated caves and cubicles. These excavations still stand after centuries of time. The caves, once a storage area for the Guanche, are now a major piece of Gran Canaria`s history. Cueva Pintada is another of the island`s famous caves. It may be the most important seat of Guanche history. Located in the town of Galdar, it was once the center for ancient rulers. Its spectacular paintings gave the cave its name. Because of erosion the cave was closed to the public several years ago. However, tourists can visit the cave virtually at the Cueva Pintada museum. They can also view artifacts recovered from inside the caves` many rooms.

Gran Canaria is a treasure trove of mountains, sand dunes and ancient monoliths. The terrain is diverse and offers opportunities for sightseeing by automobile, bicycle and foot. Its dozens of species of protected flora and fauna beckon nature-lovers of all types. Tourists looking for a unique eco-tourism experience won`t be disappointed with a Gran Canaria vacation!

More information about Gran Canaria can be found at travel site yourgrancanaria.net

For those looking for a bargain in these recessionary times the site has a number of cheap holiday in Gran Canaria deals while those booking independently can often find cheap flights to Gran Canaria

College Football Jerseys Are Just One Great Gift Idea for the Holidays

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Christmas is a very exciting time of year, but it can also be a very stressful time of year. This is because it takes a lot of organization, planning and often a decent amount of money to accomplish all of the tasks and shopping required to pull off a nice holiday. Most people have Christmas holiday traditions that include decorating by a certain date, baking Christmas cookies and other baked goods, planning out the holiday lunch or dinner, and of course, exchanging presents with one another. But if you`re going to be exchanging Christmas presents, you`re going to have to shop for them. And shopping means having money to spend, and knowing what everybody wants!

For the sports guy or girl on your Christmas list, consider sports apparel for their holiday present. A college football jersey may be the way to go, particularly if they have a favorite college sports team that they support and follow.

College football jerseys make for an excellent Christmas present because they come in many different colors, designs and sizes, and there is a jersey available for every college football team in existence. The nice thing about a jersey is that it does not discriminate against gender or size. Size availability ranges from infants on up to larger adults. So whether you`re shopping for a three year old sports fan or her fanatic uncle who also has a hearty appetite, you`re sure to find a college football jersey that`ll fit either of them perfectly.

When shopping for college football jerseys, make sure to look for companies and manufacturers that sell the authentic brands. Unfortunately, there are knock-offs floating about, and you don`t want to get saddled with one, or worse yet, give one as a gift! That said, the authentic college football jersey will be made of the best materials, constructed well, and will have fade and stain resistant inks and paints used for the lettering and numbering.

If you plan on shopping for college football jerseys, you should get started on your quest before December arrives. November and December are very busy months for merchants, so it`s important to get your order in early. This ensures that even if there is a back order on the particular football jersey you have selected, it should arrive and be shipped out to you in time for Christmas. If you do order after December 1st, select rush or priority mailing. This will cost more, but the money is worth spending if it means having a present to give before Christmas!

How to Un-wrap a Younger Looking Face for the Holidays with the Face Wrap

Monday, December 29th, 2008

As the holiday season begins, Vicki Southard, creator of the Face Wrap (facewrap.com), reveals how to look your best while the stress builds with shopping, entertaining and the increased consumptions of sweets and alcohol. The easy-to-use Face Wrap, a natural non-surgical facelift, was created to lift double chins, reduce puffiness around the eyes, and improve the appearance of wrinkles. For those wanting to look 10 years younger, it`s an option that can protect the user from the high risks of nip tuck, plastic surgery.

The holidays bring many of the things we love and look forward all year like presents, parties and family get-togethers with pumpkin pie, turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, pecan pie, Christmas cookies, eggnog with rum, and New Years Champaign toasts. The very things we love are also the things that can result in drier skin, red and puffy complexions, facial out breaks and a build up of pollutants and toxins in the facial interstitial fluid.
This holiday season, Neilson forecasts a spending increase of 4.7% or an estimated 98 billion dollars at grocery and convenience stores. With the increased spending comes the increased consumption of sugar, white flour and alcohol resulting in more toxins from these substances buildup in the body. Cells excrete waste products, get sick, and decompose. This activity can sometimes overwhelm and pollute the interstitial fluid, rendering it unable to bring nutrition, oxygen and other vital substances to the tissues. If your face looks bloated or your features seem puffy, it can be because the body is flooding that area with an excess of interstitial fluid in an attempt to dilute the impurities and keep the impurities from harming the cells in that region.
“Once, only available in salons, the do-it-yourself Face Wrap can help,” says Southard. “It`s secret is the proprietary blend of all natural minerals. Non-latex elasticized cotton bandages are soaked in the minerals and swath the face. The tissues release their impurities while they take in the many dozens of natural minerals used in our mineral solution. Typically, the face is rejuvenated and appears to look younger, thinner and more sculpted in just a few treatments.”
For the most dramatic results, such as looking 5-10 years younger, we recommend the Face Wrap be used 3-4 times the first two weeks and weekly for about 6 weeks. Each treatment is 60 minutes and can be done while getting ready for the guests to arrive, addressing Christmas cards, or watching a movie,” reports Southard.
Southard also recommends getting plenty of Omega-3 an important supplement that helps moisturize ones complexion and softening the skin from the inside out. Omega-3 supplements like seed oil and fish oil give the highest concentration of these essential fats. It is also vital to drink plenty of pure water to help flush away metabolic waste from skin cells: a half ounce of pure water for every pound of body weight is best.

Save Your Waistline Over the Holidays with Diet Recipes

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The holidays are upon us. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two major holidays each year and there is so much food consumed during these two days. People travel long distances to be with their families during the holidays. A big part of the holidays revolves around food. Many people look forward to the food as much as they look forward to spending time with family. Thanksgiving means turkey, stuffing, potatoes and many other side dishes along with a host of desserts. Unfortunately holiday food also means holiday calories and pounds. People gain more weight during the holidays than any other time of year. It’s no wonder that people choose the start of the New Year as their time to improve their weight, which is after the holidays.

One way to get a handle on all the food that is being passed around during this time of year is to modify some of your favorite recipes. By simply finding a good diet recipe that is your staple at office and church potlucks during the holidays, you can help your calorie count out tremendously. Using a diet recipe doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all the flavor and pizzazz you’re used to. With all the different functions you likely attend during the holidays, why not integrate your calorie watching into that? There are a lot of diet recipes out there that you would never know are good for you. Many of the holiday classics can be modified to be what’s considered a diet recipe. Just think of that secret carrot cake recipe you’re famous for, grandma’s world famous mac ‘n cheese recipe or even your favorite cookies. There are tons of alternative ingredients you can use to lower the fat and calorie content of all those dishes. And the best part is, often times when you switch out the ingredients, the flavor doesn’t have to be sacrificed. Using diet recipes isn’t the only way to cut back during the holidays.

You can simply watch your portion sizes as well. Indulging isn’t completely wrong all the time. But remember to not overeat. You can simply have a little of everything. Follow the cues your body gives you and don’t eat until you make yourself sick. If you’re the one doing the hosting and cooking at your house, try a few diet recipes. You can easily incorporate these into the traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and your guests will be none the wiser. Of course they’ll be thankful that you saved them some calories. And you might find that your guests are anxious to get the diet recipes from you. Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean that all is lost where calories and fat are concerned. You can take charge of your holiday eating by using Diet recipes along with some of your other favorite dishes.

Coast Through Dieting During the Holidays with Smart Choices

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Dieting is one of those things that no one wants to do, but most people will end up participating in. Especially with the time of year it is. We are almost halfway through December and several things are happening. People are shopping until they drop. People are trying to use up vacation days before the end of the year since many employers hold a use it or lose it policy. And people are attending holiday parties. All of these things can be fun. But they can also be a dieter’s nightmare if not handled with care. Christmas shopping can prove stressful and drive you to unnecessary snacking. Being off work and having additional time at home can lead to mindless snacking, and holiday parties can have consequences of high calorie finger foods that don’t truly fill you up. So how do you survive the holidays if you’re dieting?

There are a few ways to make sure you enjoy the holiday season without packing on unwanted pounds. You might even be able to lose some weight if you play your cards right. When shopping, start early so that you don’t have the added stress. You find the closer you get to Christmas, the more crowded the stores are and the lower the inventory on the items you might need. If you have vacation time you’re burning, set a schedule for yourself. Being bored and snacking can be a huge hit to the dieting adult. You’ll find if you have some set activities to do during the days you’re off, you won’t be tempted to pick up high calorie foods and start snacking. And if you are going to attend holiday parties, take a dish with you. By bringing your own low calorie dish, you’ll know there’s something at the party you’re comfortable with. Also, take a few moments to look up the nutrition information for the most common finger foods. This way at least you know what to choose when faced with the decision of what to fill your plate with. Another great way to prevent overeating at a holiday party is to eat a light meal before hand. This way you’re not starving when you get there, and can make more informed decisions about what to eat.

Indulging a little during the holidays is ok, but if you’re Dieting, it’s important to have a handle on what you eat. For Christmas, try to limit your indulging foods to Christmas day only. A big problem for those that are dieting is that instead of Christmas being a one day affair, it turns into a week long indulgent event. Another tip is pay attention to your body. During the holidays there are often a lot of different things to choose from, and people feel slighted if they don’t try some of everything.

6 Tips to Simple and Healthy Weight Loss for the Holidays

Monday, December 29th, 2008

desire. Our dreams and wishes to be the perfect weight might always seem out of reach unless we get a plan that we can stick by. My Dad was a great example. Around in his 50’s, he started to gain weight and decided that he was only going to have one helping at every meal – and that’s what he stuck to! In a reasonable amount of time, his weight had stabilized normally – no more fluxuations.

No matter what the cause is, the bottom line is that we need to maintain a proper body weight for our bone structure in order to have a happy, healthy lifestyle! How it has happened doesn’t matter as much as the realization that we need to lose weight and then the Determination to do something about it. It helps to understand how the body works so that you know what’s happening.

Our body converts food into energy and nutrients that are needed for the proper functioning of the various body organs. If the food energy intake is higher than the energy expenditure, the fat cells store the energy as fat. However, this does not mean that we should aim at zero fat in the body!

There are a fair number of weight loss solutions for obese people. From natural weight loss to herbal weight loss programs, there exists an array of such special services that have mushroomed. You have the option of choosing the one that you are most comfortable with. But eating the correct quantity of the right kind of food is probably the best way to control weight. Resisting the temptation to overeat can be extremely challenging, especially for those who believe in the joi de vivre of life. Here are some tips to help you in controlling the amount of food intake.

Eat slowly – have you ever noticed that when you eat slowly, there are times that you cannot finish an entire meal. This happens even when you think that you are so hungry that you could have finished a meal for two. There is a reason for why this occurs. The signal for fullness or satiety reaches the brain in about 20 minutes after the stomach is full. And in the meantime, you do not realize that the stomach is actually full and continue to eat. When you eat slowly, you allow the brain to receive the signal for fullness before you can gobble up too much food and therefore you tend to eat less when you eat slowly.

Stop snacking – Avoid eating in between meals. The small tit bits that you tend to eat are the ones that cause the maximum harm. They add to the total amount of food that you eat and snacks tend to be unhealthy and more fattening. One way to keep yourself away from munching all the time is to keep a plastic grape in your mouth! Keeping fruits handy is also a good idea since you can reach out for them when the urge to eat something arises out of meal time. Another extremely good trick to keep yourself away from the quick bites that you are so used to snatching is to chew sugarless gum.

Drink water – Drinking about 8 to 10 ounces of water before a meal can provide a feeling of fullness that leads to a lower intake of food. When you get that hungry craving and go to the kitchen to attack some food – realize that your body is really telling you, “I’m thirsty!” Take a tall glass of water for satisfaction. No food even needed!

Eat healthy foods – Half an hour before you know you are likely to feel really hungry, grab a plate of fresh salad (without any oily garnishing, of course). This adds to the overall nutrition that your body gets and also reduces the amount you eat at the main meal. I found that if you eat only a protein (meat) with vegetables OR a starch (potato, etc.) with vegetables, you can eat as much as you want of either combination and you will actually lose weight! Moral of the story: don’t mix proteins and starches whenever you can.

Try home remedies and herbal options – A glass of fresh lime water with honey has known to be good for burning excess fat. Cider vinegar has also been known to provide a similar effect. Herbal teas can also be used to reduce appetite. These provide essential antioxidants to the body as well and therefore are a great option.

On a lighter vein, stick a picture of an extremely obese person on your refrigerator and have a close look at it every time you open the door. Even though it may sound funny, this can prove to be a great appetite reducer for many.

Adopting some of these tips can actually allow you to reduce weight. They can be really helpful in avoiding a situation wherein you need to take weight loss medication. In using natural remedies you won’t experience any side-effects that you might using pharmaceutical drugs.

I have also had success with a natural remedy named “Slimmers Assist” which assists your body in attaining a healthy metabolism, digestion and a healthy breakdown of dietary fat. Try putting some of these together with that wonderful “determination” and begin today! Don’t be discouraged if you fall back sometimes, just immediately start in again. You can do it! Natural remedies are the way to go!

Organic Spices and Dried Herbs for the Holidays

Monday, December 29th, 2008

There are a host of fabulous holidays that occur during the bleak winter months. Although they celebrate in different ways, winter holidays help to bring cheer to what is typically a cold and dark time of year otherwise. Along with favorite holidays come traditional cuisines and dishes that you and your family enjoy, and these can be seasoned well with organic spices and bulk herbs.

Solstice

Pagans celebrate the Solstice, which is the shortest day of the year, because the days will soon begin to lengthen and the sun will come back once again. Winter greenery from conifer trees is used to decorate the home, and the lighted tree used in Christmas festivities stems back to the pagan tradition of lighting a tree on Solstice. In this tradition a yule log is burned on the fire. There is a dessert that resembles the yule log, known as the Buche de Noel. It is a chocolate cake made with wonderful organic spices that is filled with whipped cream, and covered with chocolate frosting that is scored to resemble the bark on wood. Marzipan mushrooms are sometimes put on the Buche de Noel as adornment.

Hanukkah

Hanukkah is a Jewish winter holiday that features the lighting of the menorah, and oil plays a large role in both the menorah lighting as well as foods eaten. A dreidel, a four-sided spinning top, is used in a traditional game. There are a couple of special foods that are eaten during Hanukkah, and they include sufganiyot, or jelly donuts with no hole in the center that are seasoned with bulk spices such as cinnamon and powdered sugar, and latkes, which are crispy potato pancakes. Various dried herbs can be used in making latkes, but onion, eggs and flour are always used.

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is a celebration that people of African descent enjoy during the month of December. Culture is reaffirmed with family, and gifts are exchanged. Food is also shared, and culminates with a Kwanzaa feast held on December 31st. Foods feature recipes from the Caribbean, Africa and South America, and can include fried okra, plantains, fried chicken, black bean soup, baked ham and gumbo. These foods favor bold organic spices and dried herbs for appropriate flavorings.

Christmas

Christmas is a Christian winter holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, but developed its modern-day trappings during the reign of Queen Victoria of England, and through the writings of Charles Dickens. It typically includes a tree with lights and decorations, as well as gifts, and a feast with organic spices and bulk herbs as part of the festivities. Foods eaten as well as organic herbs and bulk spices used can vary, but are traditionally similar to what is served at Thanksgiving, including turkey, mashed root vegetables, gravy, dressings, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie for dessert. Organic spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, as well as organic herbs like rosemary and sage figure prominently in these wonderful dishes.

FixingMy CreditReport – The Holidays Are the Best Time of Year to Fix Credit.

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Not only is self credit repair the best way to approach fixing info on your credit report, but the holiday season is the best time of year to perform credit repair.

Hmm, “why is that?”; you ask. There is a simple answer. Because of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the credit bureaus have 5 days from submission of a written request OR an on-line request to contact the creditor in question to look into your request. The credit Bureaus as well as the creditor in question are only allotted a certain amount of time to look into your request.

If both the credit bureaus and creditor in question don`t manage to get all the info they need to prove that the issue in question is either wrong or right, then guess what! You win.

Guess what else! The credit bureaus and creditors tend to be short staffed during the holidays. Here`s the money part; the Fair Credit Reporting Act does not care if the creditors or the credit bureaus are short staffed. They have no choice but to adhere to the rules set forth and if they don`t hear back from these companies regarding the issue, then say goodbye to your bad mark.

Each item that can’t be proven NEEDS to be removed from your credit profile.

{{{Another thing to consider is|It’s also important to remember}} that fixing your credit is best handled on your own. Don`t hire a credit repair agency that will simply shoot out a bunch of dispute letters all at once. This is the easiest way to get your claims red flagged as frivolous.

It`s easy to do the credit repair yourself, but remember to send each dispute all by itself. If you have numerous items to dispute, send them separately and space them out a bit AND use the lighter staffing during the holidays at the credit agencies to your advantage.
