Computer Accessories, Laptop Stand Has Legs And Fans, Allows Internet Surfing In Bed

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Laptop cooling pads and notebook fans extend the life of the laptop, but they’re limited to desk use. That is unless you expect a Spanish Inquisition girth-loss program.

Nobody really expects that. Here’s a laptop stand that cools while you surf on the bed or anywhere other than the desk.

There are laptop stands and laptop fans and never the twain shall meet.

That’s really a shame, because while the laptop computer desk is a great laptop accessory it doesn’t help you extend the life of your laptop and a laptop fan will only cool your laptop on your bed if you’ve got some sadistic hatred of leg hair.

So it is about time that someone came out with a laptop tray that’ll also keep the notebook cool.

Wholesale laptop accessory manufacturer, Chinavasion, has put together a very nice notebook table that will put other laptop desks to shame.

The Deluxe Notebook Computer Work Station is a laptop desk that manages to stick in both the functions of a portable laptop stand and a notebook cooling pad.

The result: it cools like a netbook fan and keeps the weight off your legs like a laptop bed desk.

The bed table looks pretty slick in gadget black. The laptop table is also pretty sturdy being constructed out of aluminum.

The bed desk has two movable legs so that you could potentially set it up on the sofa, on the floor or on the bed depending on where you wanted the laptop desk stand.

The laptop computer stand is still light and compact enough to be thrown into your suitcase for your next trip on the road.

The best Laptop Desks – Logitech Comfort Lapdesk.

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Despite its name, it is usually quite uncomfortable to use the laptop from your lap. Laptops produce an extraordinary amount of heat, slowly roasting your lap into a pair of fried drumsticks. To solve this problem many companies have come up with laptop desks that are designed to comfortably support your laptop while you sit on a chair, sofa, or bed.

Most of the laptop desks in the market right now are electrically powered. They are usually fitted with some small fans to cool the laptop and come in boring shades of black and white.

Among the many models available in the market, my favorite laptop desk would have to be Logitech’s Comfort Lapdesk. The lap desk is a high tech piece of cushion that shields your legs from the laptop’s heat. It has a cool, space-age design, which is good enough of a reason on itself for anyone to get one of these.

The Comfort Lapdesk does is not electrically powered and does not rely on any fans to cool the laptop. The lower layer of the pad is curved upwards, creating an air chamber that allows air to flow through. This process cools down the laptop. The curvature of the pad also creates minimum contact with your lap. This laptop desk is at contact with your lap at only four points, minimizing the transfer of heat from the laptop to your lap.

According to Logitech’s research, nearly 60% of all laptop users use their laptop while they are on a couch. Because of this, the design of the laptop desk is of such that it naturally tilts 12 degrees upwards. Here, you can comfortably use your laptop without having to bend your knee all the time.

The best Laptop Desks – LapWorks Laptop Desk 2.0

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Unless you are using some supporting padding, it is very unlikely that you can stand using the laptop on your bare lap for more than 10 minutes. From stand alone to mobile laptop desks, there is no shortage of choices when it comes to this laptop accessory.

The Laptop Desk 2.0 is a heavy-duty pad that can support the largest laptops available. It measures at 20” long and can be folded into half for to accommodate smaller laptops. It also bends upward with a quick flip to become a laptop stand.

A disadvantage of this laptop desk is that it weights at a hefty 1.4 pounds, adding much load to your laptop bag. To make up for this, it is reasonably priced, much cheaper than many other laptop insulators out there. It also looks kind of cool with its black and rubbery texture. Its sturdy construction and hardy material makes this laptop desk very durable, perfect for all butterfingers out there.

The surface of this LapWorks model has deep groves in them, allowing air to flow beneath the laptop. This effectively cools the laptop by over 2 degrees when used for prolonged periods of time. Unfortunately, its design only provides a moderate amount of protection against the laptop heat. After approximately 20 minutes of usage, the user can start feeling the heat seeping through the padding. For maximum cooling, the user would need to tilt the desk to create an air passage below to cool the laptop further.

So, Which Is The Best Laptop To Buy?

Friday, January 16th, 2009

The question isn`t, “Which is the best laptop to buy?” It`s actually, “Which is the best laptop to buy for me?” Every computer user has different expectations and different user needs, so the best laptop to buy for one user may not be the best laptop to buy for another. Laptop selection depends more on user needs than anything else!

I`ll give you a couple of examples:

User A:

User A surfs the internet daily, using chat rooms, browsing forums, posts on blogs, and making purchases online. User A rarely does anything else, so the best laptop to buy for User A would be the basic deal.

User B:

However, User B is a different story. User B writes programming code, compiles strings of data, runs multiple large applications while switching between them, uses his laptop as his media entertainment center, and plays the latest graphic-intensive video games released. User B`s best laptop to buy would be the top of the line laptop, because User B is a power user.

I know there are many people that would either fall between User A and User B, and the best laptop to buy for those people may also be something in between.

For those people, here`s a quickie list:

Computer Specs:

If you frequently use certain applications or play specific games, make sure the laptop meets or is above the recommended requirements! Above would be better because future software updates could cause your computer lag if it`s only barely meeting the requirements.

Graphics:

Make sure you have a dedicated graphic card if you`re a gamer! Dedicated graphic cards are the only way to go, since shared memory actually takes away from your RAM to use for graphic-intensive games and applications.

Ports:

Think USB 1.0 & USB 2.0, FireWire, PS2 (mouse/keyboard), HDMI, and other possible ports you may want. You can always get a USB device that will allow you to add more expansion ports, but some of these you may want built in. Take the time to go through the list.

I hope this helps! If you would like to check out a more in-depth guide, read this article or this buying guide!!

5 Tips when Purchasing a Mini Laptop

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Although mini laptops are inexpensive, it doesn`t mean you should go ahead and buy the first mini laptop model that comes your way. There is an art to shopping for mini laptops, and if you want to buy a mini laptop, here are some tips to consider:

1.Consider Your Requirements

There are roughly two types of mini laptops in the market today, Solid State Drives (SSD) mini laptops and Hard Disk Drives (HDD) mini laptops. SSD mini laptops boot faster, are able to withstand impact and are generally more reliable performance-wise. But they are also notorious for having low storage capacities. SSD mini laptops that do have high storage capacities are very expensive. On the other hand, HDD mini laptops can store up to 160GB of data but are less tough than their SSD counterparts . So what does this have to do with you? It’s all about your needs and wants. Do you need a fast mini laptop with low storage or a mini laptop with high capacity but boots slower?

2.Consider the Brand

Out in the market, there are many mini laptops brands. ASUS definitely created the mini laptop market in 2007, but Acer, Lenovo, HP, Dell, and MSI followed soon after. Different manufacturers have different reputations, e.g., Asus for small keyboards. Different brands of mini laptops are known for different things, and it does pay if you research on what these are.

3.Windows XP or Linux?

Like the desktop computers where there is a lingering competition between Mac and Windows, there is competition between Windows XP and the different Linux versions. The only difference is that manufactures ship mini laptop models in both operating systems. For practically every mini laptop model, there is a Windows XP or a Linux version. While Linux netooks are known for their stability and security (Linux users rarely, if ever, complain about malware and virus infection on their machines), Windows XP mini laptops have the advantage of popularity. Many computer users are so used to using Windows XP, it’s very difficult to switch paradigms to use a Linux. The fact is, users of Linux mini laptops are more likely to return their mini laptops than Windows XP users.

4.Read User Reviews

User reviews give you insight on the actual performance of a netboook. Manufacturers will always hype their product whenever they can to boost sales, so do not expect an objective product review from them. If you want to know the rundown on a particular mini laptop model, read up on independent product reviews by online computer magazines. You can also search for forums on the different mini laptop models.

5.Comparison Shop

Never settle for the first price you see on a shopping website. Compare prices from at least three mini laptop sellers before ordering. Some websites are able to sell their mini laptops cheaper than others because they have made larger wholesale orders. Still, others sell cheaper because they are selling second hand. In any case, just make sure you are dealing with a reputable website.
