Check Out The New Mustang Models For 2008

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Mustangs have been around for many generations and they will continue to be here. They have become an icon in America and have been labeled as one of the best Muscle cars. When they were first created the younger generation at the time saw the potential that it had and loved not only the power it possessed – but also the look and feel of it. That same engineering and design has only improved over the years.

The new 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt is no exception to it. If anything it only improves upon the design and adds new features that will help to make it that much more appealing. The 2008 Bullitt commemorates the classic Steve McQueen film. But Ford never makes their Mustangs in small numbers. There are a few other models that have been added to the 2008 model line-up.

Standing next to the Bullitt is the 2008 Shelby GT500KR. This is probably Ford’s most powerful Mustang ever to be built. Excited? I know I am! Power is something that we all crave in a car no matter how small or big it might be. And that is what Muscle cars are all about. Without power they would just be another economy car that we drive to work and listen to the radio in. Instead we are proud of each and every powerful Mustang!

As is custom these models are available in convertibles and coupes and come equipped with either the V6 or V8 engines in the Premium or Deluxe trims. The base version are built with 4.0 liter V engines that have the ability to push out 210 horsepower.

We have saved the best model for last. The Shelby GT500 has returned and it brings a supercharged 5.4 liter V8 engine – which pushes out a whopping 500 horsepower! As for the Bullitt it is built with a 4.6 liter V8 engine that can push out 315 horsepower and is only available with the 5 speed manual transmission. The GT500 is also only available in manual transmission. The other base models are available with automatic or manual transmission.

Ford has made the Shelby GT500KR a limited edition coupe – which means if you really want it then you better get your hands on it fast before they are all taken. It is built with a 5.4 liter supercharged V8 engine that has the ability to push out 319 horsepower. When it comes to safety the engineers at Ford have equipped it with front side airbags, ABS, and traction control.

2003 Ford SVT Cobra Mustang Review

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Anthony J. D’Angelo once declared “Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.” Now a days with all the stress and demand we put on ourselves we may find this difficult. But now there’s the Ford Mustang. Wherever you go – go there in a Ford Mustang and you will have your sunshine.

In 1993 Ford had a brilliant idea to create a special in-house team that will focus on pure power and performance. They named the group the Special Vehicle Team and for years it was the only one of its kind. Chief engineer for Ford SVT was John Coletti who was able to push out some of the best and most powerful cars on the market.

In 2003 Coletti had completed his 10th year in operation of SVT and sold 100,000 high performance cars. This included the SVT Lightning and the fourth generation SVT Cobra Mustang. In order to celebrate this milestone they created one of the highest rated horsepower and torque Mustangs that they could during that time. The total cost of this special edition Cobra was $34,750 with the convertible costing $38,850.

The SVT Cobra Mustang is built with the four-valve aluminum heads that can also be found on the Mustang Mach 1 – but it is also built with an Eaton Roots-type supercharger. This engine pushes out 390 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 390 pound-ft of torque at 3500 rpm.

It also comes with a T-56 six speed manual transmission, bigger tires, improved brakes, and stiffer rear spring that can handle more power. The interior is finished with some brushed aluminum accents, heavily bolstered Nudo leather bucket seats, and titanium colored gauges.

Ford Produces 2010 Mustang

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

When you are asked what the best muscle car is what is the first thing that comes into your head? Is it the Mustang? That is the usual answer and looking back at the dozens of models that have been produced we are not surprised. It is one of the few muscle cars that is not only affordable – but comes with the power that we all love to have in a car. For the past five years Ford has been using the same style and design that takes its cues from the late 1960’s model. But for the 2010 model they are switching things up.

Engineers have improved the aerodynamics for the 2010 Mustang. The basic theme of the Mustang has not been lost and still stays true to the inset headlamps and forward canted grille. The turn signals though have been repositioned into the pocket with the headlamps and seem to be slightly smaller.

The hood has been re-contoured and has been given the “power dome” in the center of it. When you look at the edged you can see that the hood and the fender have been partially concave to leave a ridge that travels back to the A-pillar. The entire leading edge of the hoods now is able to curve down to help the airflow around the nose and over the top of the vehicle.

One of the things that people did not like about the 2005 model was the interior because it was made with cheap, plastic materials. That is why in the 2010 model Ford got rid of these materials and instead opted for an aluminum dash and trim. It is now smooth and looks much more sophisticated.

Paul Randle – the chief engineer – stated that the most current Mustang Bullitt has been labeled the best Mustang because it has the right amount of power and handling. That is why they chose it to be the baseline for the brand new GT model.

The 2010 Mustang GT will keep the three valve 4.6 liter V8 engine. It is now able to push out 315 horsepower and 325 pound-ft of torque. The air intake has been redesigned so that the fresh air will be drawn from behind the grille instead of from the wheel wall. The duct from the air filter box all the way to the throttle body has been redesigned and straightened to help reduce flow restriction. To make for a quieter ride they have added new sound installation.

There is one new feature that Ford will be adding to the 2010 Ford Mustang. Electronic stability control will now become a standard feature on all models. It will default on the car. On the V6 Mustang model drivers will be given the option to turn this feature off. While the V6 model can switch it to a performance mode. The 2010 Mustang will go on sale in the middle of December.

The 2008 S320E Saleen Mustang Review

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Saleen is one of North America’s premiere specialty vehicle manufacturer. They are well known for the incredible Mustangs that they deliver to consumers. Each and every vehicle that they produce is well known for their craftsmanship, performance, and power that is put into it.

The 2008 Saleen S320E Mustang has been equipped with a 302 cubin inch engine that was specially made by Saleen and has been augmented with a patented Saleen twin screw and intercooler supercharger. With this engine the S320 can produce 620 horsepower and 600 pound-ft of torque.

“We believe that we are in the process of creating a legendary new car. It’s thrilling,” says Saleen President and CEO, Paul Wilbur. “It seemed to make sense that as we go into our 25th Anniversary as a manufacturer in North America that we make our best and most powerful car yet.”

This new model – which has been given the nickname “Extreme” – has been built with a number of high quality performance parts that reveal to consumers the race engineering heritage that they are known for. The unique engine that is placed inside the car is a forged crankshaft with forged connecting rods and forged pistons that have been blueprinted individually. It is also built with 5 axis CNC aluminum cylinder heads, high performance camshafts, and high flow fuel injectors.

Each one of the parts work together simultaneously with the Saleen twin screw supercharger. It is connected to a 6 speed manual transmission and Max grip rear differential – which allows it to reach from 0 to 60 mph in less then 4 seconds.

“This place represents a kind of automotive “mecca” for me. We are making limited volume, performance vehicles for people who really love cars, by people who really love cars. I cannot think of a better place to put my 35 years of OEM engineering history to work,” says Vice Chairman and Chief Technical Officer Chris Theodore. Chris Theodore is also known as the father of the Ford GT. “Now I am helping build great Saleen cars in the same factory that I architected for the legendary Ford GT.”

“This is the best motor that we have ever done,” says Powertrain Engineering lead Rob Simons. “We have really benefited from having Chris [Theodore] around. He brings perspective and experience to the company unlike anything that we have known prior.”

In order to get the best performance out of the this Saleen Mustang the engineering team used a standard 20 inch, 5 spoke forged aluminum allow wheels that are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires. But in order to have large amounts of power added to the car you must be able to control it. Otherwise we would be all over the road with it. To have the type of control that we need engineers equipped the Extreme with a Saleen Racecraft suspension and a second generation, brand new Watts Link system that will help the driver stay in control of the vehicle when taking sharp corners.

The chassis system has been rounded by upgraded 4 wheel disc brakes and ABS and traction control. The performance brake system features 15 inch vented, slotted rotors, with 6 piston calipers in the front and 11.8 inch rear vented discs with single piston calipers in the back.

Ford Mustang – Fast Sport Cars

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Ford is a well known brand across the world, it owns 33% of Mazda known by its modern cars featured in films such as the Fast and the Furious, Jaguar, Aston Martin and many others. From its many car models, one of the most famous is the Mustang. Manufactured and engineered to be a muscle car, this particular car model stands away from the rest by it unique design and power. The best part is that due to this model`s reputation the company keeps improving and redesigning it to deliver a high quality driving machine every single time.

Ford Mustangs are highly customizable sport cars and in recent years have shown many modifications to its design. The wheelbase in both versions (convertible and coupe) are 101.3 inches, the curb weight varies just a tiny bit from the convertible to the coupe models, the curb weight of a mustang 2 door convertible is 3257 pounds while the two door coupe is 3077 pounds. As far as fuel capacity both models, convertible and coupe can hold up to 15.4 gallons. Both models can comfortably accommodate 4 passengers.

As far as design, second and third Mustang generations were not as good as the first one but the machinery quality improved. Second and third generations range from 1974-1993. During the 1980s Mustangs were going through a hard transition when Ford announced that they would replace the rear-wheel drive Mustang with a Mazda-derived four wheel drive version, luckily for them and its clients the fourth generation of Mustangs came along, this generation of fords is almost as welcomed as the first due to the significant redesign this model went through.

The 1994 Mustang coupe was starting to show signs of potential and greatness but it wasn`t until 1995 when the GTS model was introduced to the market. In 1996 Mustang`s engine went through a major upgrade, this is when the Windsor 5.0 L engine was replaced by 215 horse power 4.6L SOHC Modular V8 engine and in 1998 the SOHC engine was increased to 225 HP through aggressive PCM calibration a larger exhaust and a modified fuel system.

As far as power, the 3.8 V6 engine sent developed 145-190 horsepower, the GT 5.0L V8 sends 240 hp to the back axle.

In 1994-2004 models Mustang GT`s power was increased to 260hp and consumers have loved this car ever since, that`s not even mentioning the awesome “MODs” available which include new decals, bumpers, paint work, rims, etc. Not only it is extremely reliable and stylish but many consumers have reported that it`s stereo system beats any other manufacturer-installed car stereo in the market, it has an extremely good bass, the midrange is perfectly set as well as the highs.

Aston Martin is also an outstanding fast and high end Ford-owned driving machine which delivers great power, speed and style but that`s another article.

Crippling Effects of Sexual Abuse Exposed in New LA Play Mustang Sally

Friday, November 28th, 2008

“Statutory rape” is the term. It`s harsh for a reason. It`s a lot more than just “sexual misconduct” or “sexual harassment”. If it happens to a minor, it`s abuse – it`s statutory rape. I have been a professional, licensed therapist for over 20 years in the Los Angeles area, and I can tell you that the effects of this crime on the victim`s soul and very identity can be devastating. It forces them to cover themselves with so many layers of protection that they forget (or fail to discover) who they were made to be.

The good news is that there is a road back from this abyss. That`s what it feels like to many of them – a black mark on their soul. Each person is unique of course, so they`ll try on a myriad of exteriors to disguise how they really feel about themselves. Many become addicted to drugs, booze, perfectionism and even sex. But inside they feel a frightening blackness, almost completely void of self value. And although their victimization might have been 20, 30 or 50 years earlier, they feel a deep and sharp sense of shame as though it was yesterday. My job as a therapist is to help them first admit what happened to them, and to then peel off each successive layer of self protection as they build up their true self.

People have the concept that the damage from statutory rape or molestation is worse on girls than on boys. Not so. Not at all. Boys can be equally devastated by sins committed against their bodies and souls. They wonder why they can`t have a true sense of peace, a thankful heart, or healthy relationships. But men are generally less likely to ever admit they are suffering. In fact, they may not even understand the root of their rage or pain. We all know the cliché that men are harder to get to the dentist or doctor because they`re supposed to be “tough”. Imagine the courage it takes for a man to admit he needs help and to go to counseling!

That`s why I`m glad my friend Tish Smiley is producing the play, MUSTANG SALLY by Linda Felton Steinbaum, which addresses this important topic. I love theatre in the first place, but I am especially excited when plays deal with important dynamics that need to be exposed. With all the hot news stories about sexual abuse by female teachers with their male students, you`d think these occurrences are a new “trend.” This is a misconception. There is no new sin under the sun. Unfortunately, it`s been happening for thousands of years.

Most men and women carry the weight of these sins (sins committed against them by others) their entire lives. But they don`t need to. There is freedom if they want it. Yes, it`s painful, but not as painful as a living the rest of their lives under the heaviness that keeps them confused about who they are. This is not what God wants.

In fact, after seeing a few cases of abuse while I was still in my practicum, I decided to name my practice “True Identity Counseling.” I know a lot of people can`t afford one-on-one therapy, so, for nearly 15 years, I have led an eight week Christian based course called “Hope and Healing From Abuse” in Van Nuys, California. The course is designed to help the abused see the truth about what has occurred, and to give them the tools to release their burdens.

You might think that because it`s a class setting, there`s not enough privacy. Quite the opposite. One lady who I counseled individually for several years is now a helper in the Hope and Healing series. She says that in some ways, there is actually more privacy in the class setting, “because they get to sit with themselves and mull the new information over in their mind without feeling any pressure to respond immediately to each point..” Anybody seeing the play, MUSTANG SALLY who has been a victim of abuse, or knows someone who has, please feel free to call True Identity Counseling at 818.907-8783. There is hope and healing! For more about the play, MUSTANG SALLY, opening at the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks later this year, please visit http://www.mustangsallytheplay.com or http://www.myspace.com/mustangsallytheplay.

Purchasing A Mustang Skid Steer? Important Things To Know

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Copyright (c) 2008 Will Burke

There are many, many options when it comes time to purchase your skid steer. With manufacturers like Mustang, Bobcat, Caterpillar, etc., you may find yourself asking, “Where should I begin?” Here are some things to consider when you think about buying a skid steer.

You first will need to decide whether your needs would be filled by a used unit or if you are at a point that a new unit would be best suitable for your needs, secondly you will need to determine the proper size machine for your application, depending on the type work you do, the largest or highest horsepower machine isn`t always the most efficient machine.

You will also need to decide if you were going to set a budget to spend or if you are going to be financing this unit. If you intend to purchase a unit outright, you will need to set your budget realistically. Some of the aggravation may stem from not being able to find a machine in the size range that also fit in the price range you are looking to spend. When shopping for a used unit, you must really pay attention to the unit, sometimes folks will let the glitter blind them, a machine with the best aesthetic value may not always be the best mechanical value. You need to look past shiny paint and new tires, you should do a complete evaluation on the machine, key points to check are as listed below.

1. Look for wear on important hinge points of the machine. Check for abnormal play in pinned joints on the boom lift arm. Check the bucket hinge pins and all bucket and lift cylinder pinned joints, always be sure to check both ends of the hydraulic cylinder ends.

2. Check for broken welds or cracks on structural components of the machine. You will want to inspect the boom lift arm, axle tubes and housings, check around hydraulic cylinder pinned joints. Also, make sure you pay attention to the bucket. If you see multiple post manufacture welds, this may be an indicator that the machine has been used in an abusive manner, such as ramming skid steer into large masses.

3. Check for excessive oil or fuel leaks. Look over engine compartment, if accessible check under the cab of the unit as well. Don`t count on finding a used machine that is perfectly dry, but you don`t want oil standing in the belly of the unit either. Also keep in mind that just because the a unit has an oil leak doesn`t mean the unit has problems, it can be as simple as a lose hose fitting, or a failed

4. Check the steering and drivability of the machine. This could be one of the more important parts of the inspection, due to the nature of the problem these can be a more expensive fix and worse, it could be a safety issue as well. Drive the unit fully engaged forward, check that the machine tracks straight. You will also want to be sure that there isn`t a lot of slop in the chain case by driving the machine from reverse to forward and vice verse. When machine is in the neutral position be sure that the unit isn`t creeping (still moving), this can be very dangerous as it could run into something or if you are work with laborers it could cause injury.

5. Check for engine wear. Keep in mind most skid steer loaders are powered by diesel engines, much different than conventional gasoline engine. Diesel engines are much louder than gasoline engines, they have a noticeable clatter at lower rpm`s.

Diesels may also smoke a little grayish-black smoke when first started or while warming up, this is normal especially in a used unit. Check for power loss under a light load, you may do this simply by driving the machine up a slight incline, the rpm`s will drop some but they shouldn`t drop more than 50 % of full throttle rpm`s just from driving alone. Remember that diesel engines create the most power at lower rpm`s under a load. Just because the engine is losing rpm`s, that does not necessarily mean your losing power.

6. Lastly, check the overall condition of the machine. This step of the evaluation is important in the sense that you will want a machine that looks professional and you will base a portion of your decision off your findings from this step. If you do purchase a used skid steer, if the paint and decals show a lot of wear, I would highly recommend a good touch up to the paint and replace the decals. This is usually inexpensive and will give your machine a better aesthetic value, especially important if you are a contractor, You want customers to feel confident in the equipment your using to complete their projects.

Mustang Talk Volume IV Restoring the Punch of the Pony

Friday, November 7th, 2008

In this edition of Mustang talk, we’ll cover the age-old question facing every male who takes the wheel of a Pony: is my Mustang manly enough to be my everyday driver? If it’s not, or if yours is on the borderline, we’ll cover the ways to make your ride man-legal in an afternoon.

Welcome to the latest edition of Mustang Talk. Part of the nature and history of the Mustang is something our rides just can’t shake. Namely, chicks invaded the Mustang turf decades ago, and never left. While we appreciate a little female presence at the clubs and shows, and don’t mind listening to the sorority chicks in the neighborhood describing the grinding sound her ignition makes in hopes that a fellow ‘stang owner would have a cheap fix, they’ve diluted the toughness of one of the baddest sleds ever formed from Detroit steel.

Sure, there are plenty of Boss Mustangs still out there, especially since the ’05 reincarnation of the famed ’67. But, for every Shelby GT or Saleen on the streets, there’s probably 50 or so white V6 convertibles with pink trim, bumping Madonna on the stock speakers and rocking a “Because I’m the Princess” plate frame. It got even worse recently, when Ford lots started slinging GTs like they were Festivas. Now you can’t even look for the dual exhaust as a sign of a real Mustang owner anymore. So, how is a guy going to keep his muscle car rep these days?

It’s a plain point to consider if you’re a man with a Mustang: simply having a V8 doesn’t cut it anymore. You need more juice, and you need to flex that power plant with regularity. The first part you need is a new exhaust system. Custom pipes give you the feel, sound and look of extra power—they’re a must for every GT. Next, you need more air rushing into the manifold. A high-flow air intake will do the trick. Last, but certainly not least—perhaps most importantly—you need a power programmer like Hypertech’s Power Programmer III. It plugs in under the steering column and tunes everything in just a few minutes that used to take hours with a wrench to complete.

Also, there are a few things you may want to remove from your ‘stang to keep it within manly regulations. Toss the dealership plate frames. Tell your girlfriend that her rose holder and hibiscus seat covers have got to go. Get rid of the factory wheels. Peel off any “Student of the Month” gear—make your kid earn your acceptance in ways that don’t ruin your paint.

Lastly, all men with any stake in the image of the collective of Mustang drivers must take a solemn vow: never, and I mean NEVER, give in to your daughter or wife’s whining for their own Pony Car. Keep the white and light green V6 convertibles with flower stickers and pink seat covers off the road. Let her know that if she wants to be your little princess, she can get a used Volvo and a hostess job. Confine the cute-ifying of cars to VWs, and protect the Mustang heritage for the good of all men with a stake in its resurgence.

Pump up your Mustang and help the whole of the stang driving community with Mustang accessories like a Hypertech Power Programmer III.
