Why a GPS Cell Phone is a Must Have
by Trent Ford

Since its inception, there have been numerous upgrades and alterations to the global positioning system. Nowadays it is easy to get your hands on a GPS system, and their functionality and capabilities are ever growing.

GPS cell phones are cellular devices that have GPS software pre-installed. These allow you to have access to GPS services without buying a standalone device that is often more expensive. High quality phones such as the Blackberry and iPhone are known for sporting GPS, and most new phones in the future are expected to include the feature as well.

When most people hear the phrase GPS, they think of the products in cars that give turn-by-turn directions. In fact, the voice directions are one of the few benefits traditional GPS systems have that cell phones don`t. Once cell phones acquire this capability, the need for original GPS probably won`t be needed.

One thing GPS is great for is emergencies. If you are lost or in an area you are not familiar with, and you are running low on gas, you can use GPS to find a nearby service station. Also, they are great for telling people your exact location, so they can find you easily.

When you call 911, emergency services work with your cell phone carrier to find your location. Although the issue of privacy has arisen, location information is only given out in times of emergency, which is when everybody would have no qualms about privacy and just want help.

The primary benefit people think about when it comes to GPS is finding places without a map. Indeed, you will never need to look at a map again if you have a quality GPS cell phone. All you need to do is type in the address you are going to, and step-by-step directions are instantly created for you to follow.

Another feature of GPS, which is primarily useful to parents, is the child tracking option. If parents are suspicious or just want to know where their kids are, they can find out whenever they want by using GPS. A parent should tell their child about said tracking, but it is not required.

While GPS cell phones are not widespread as of yet, the natural progression of technology will soon make it so. There will be a day when no one will ever get lost again, and with that, the world will be a slightly better place.

Huge penalties for drivers caught on phones

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Insurers are being very hard on motorists who are caught and prosecuted for using their phones whilst driving by increasing premiums by up to 30%.
Churchill, Alliance and Leicester, Norwich Union, Allianz and Zurich are all now asking drivers if they have got a conviction for this and quoting appropriately if they have. The majority of them pushed up policies in February when the penalties were increased for the offence.
According to the AA, on average, annual car insurance is £682, which means a 30% rise for any convicted motorists would mean paying an extra £204 a year.
Spokesman for Allianz, Mark Bishop, said: `We decided to raise our premiums for drivers convicted of the offence to 30 per cent in April. We hope that other insurers will follow our lead. We need to enforce the message that this is a dangerous and needless act.`
This strong attitude is being welcomed by the AA. Ian Crowder, said: `This is a responsible approach by insurers. In our experience, drivers who have been convicted of using their phones tend to pick up more claims and are therefore deemed to be more dangerous. Drivers who use their phones are a big risk in terms of their lack of awareness, concentration on surroundings and failure to control the car properly. This is why a mobile phone offence often goes hand in hand with a careless driving offence.`
A recent survey by the AA revealed that 18% has been added to most companies premiums if a driver has incurred a CU80 (mobile phone penalty) and they are encouraging insurers on their panel to consider the offence when quoting. They also found some companies will not insure anyone with a CU80. If a person is caught speeding it may affect their premium by £10 – £30 the first time but rocket to £150 for subsequent convictions and, some refuse to quote. `Drivers who speed are seen as less dangerous than those using their mobile, who are not fully in control of their vehicle,` says Mr Crowder.

It was December 2003 when it was made illegal to use a mobile phone while driving but astonishingly the number of people caught doing it is rising. In 2006 168,000 fines were made which is nearly 500 per day, 29% higher than the total in 2005 of 129,700, says the Ministry of Justice. It is thought that 300,000 motorists will use a hand held phone every day and although hands-free are allowed some say that they too are dangerous.

The Statistics
Motorists who text frequently 50%
Concentration is reduced when talking on the phone by 37%
Number of motorists who have points in UK 6 million
Number of driving offences in 2006 (inc speeding and phone use) 12.7 million

The future of touchscreen mobile phones – Nokia N97 vs T-Mobile G1

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

2008`s been a good year for touchscreen mobile phones, but if anything, 2009 looks like it`s going to be even better, thanks to two new systems: Google Android, as seen in the T-Mobile G1, and Symbian S60 Touch, as seen in the Nokia N97. But how do these two heavyweight stack up against each other?

Domo Arigato Mr Roboto – The Rise of Google Android via the T-Mobile G1

A new operating system in mobile phones is always something that raises a fair amount of excitement. When it`s completely open source, so anyone can change it, it causes more excitement. When it`s made by one of the biggest names in the universe, Google, then everyone`s going to pay attention. So it was with Google Android, and the T-Mobile G1, the first mobile phone in the entire universe to be built around it. But what makes the T-Mobile G1 so special? Why is it so different to other mobile phones? Well, apart from the fact that the T-Mobile G1 comes with a huge touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard, putting it firmly in the smartphone territory, that Google Android software makes for a truly unique experience. From the Android marketplace, where you can buy literally ANY extra software for your mobile phone that people can dream up, to the Amazon MP3 store, to Google Maps (and StreetView, with the built-in compass, which has to be seen to be believed), to full integration with GoogleMail, the T-Mobile G1 gives you access to masses of features not seen on any other mobile phones. And because the T-Mobile G1 is the first of its breed, it is truly unique!

Symbian evolves – the Nokia N97

So, while the T-Mobile G1 is heralding in a new day with the brand new Google Android software, what exactly does the biggest name in the business have in store from their mobile phones? Well, the answer is, quite simply, the unbelievable Nokia N97. It`s not the first touchscreen mobile phone from the Finnish giant, but it IS easily the best, as it`s based on the absolute latest version of the Symbian S60 Touch operating system. The huge, widescreen touch display on the Nokia N97 is truly something to behold, and it ties up beautifully with the QWERTY keyboard to give you one of the nicest interfaces in the history of mobile phones. Software-wise, the Nokia N97 is easily as fluid and nice to use as thing like the iPhone and, yes, the T-Mobile G1. And of course, since Symbian has such a massive developer base, software for it is as wide-ranging and you`d like. Basically, the Nokia N97 is a true world-beater.

T-Mobile G1 vs Nokia N97 – Which will win the war?

So, both powerful mobile phones, both really, really innovative… but which is the better of the two, the T-Mobile G1, or the Nokia N97? Well, the T-Mobile G1 has the open source battle sewn up, since the Nokia N97, basically, isn`t open source. Potentially, that means more software available for the T-Mobile G1, as more people can, theoretically, code for it. Also, the G1 is reckoned to have one of the simplest registration procedures of all mobile phones, and you can`t overlook how nice a thing that is to have. However, the simple fact is that the Nokia N97 is far prettier, has a bigger screen, has a better camera, and potentially, has faster internet access. The T-Mobile G1 does have a certain cool factor from being something so new and unprecedented, but when it comes down to it, the Nokia N97 simply slaughters it on build quality and features. And so, if I had to pick one of these mobile phones (which is kind of the point of this article, really), I`d go for the all-conquering Nokia N97.

Unlocking Sagem Phones

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Mobile phones are locked due to various reasons such as a phone has been reported stolen so the SIM card is locked, the phone bill wasn`t paid or a contract phone ended after a certain amount of time.

Unlocking phones is also considered illegal for some matters, so this article will only explore the legal ways of Unlock Sagem Phones. Other ways of unlocking phones may mean you can use your phone abroad, where previously you were restricted doing so.

The bad news is that after 2007, due to the nature of the phone no Sagem phone can be unlocked without desoldering the flash components inside. A Nokia or Motorolla phone is much easier to unlock.

Sagem Mobile phones are unlocked via Sagem software, drivers, cable and testpoint and are one of the hardest phones to unlock. You need to link up your phone to a USB cable, then connect to your computer, then download related drivers and then finally get the software working.

Where to find USB cables? You can try going to your local highstreet chain, giving them your model of phone or try ebay for a much broader and cheaper range of cables.

Where to find related software and drivers? You can download the software by doing a search in Google for sagDD and also Sagemandromeda21.zip. Both are files which can be found on the internet, you just need a cable to plug attach your phone to your pc to unlock it. Drivers are available on the internet too.

Another way to unlock your phone, is to call the phone network and buy an actual unlock code from them, they are legally required to provide one. For example “3″ charge £15 to unlock a phone once its out of the contract period.

Finally, you could always buy a replacement sim card and see if that works too.
