Bamboo Shades Just Feel, Natural

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Visit an outdoor recreation area or go on an old fashioned camping trip. See and experience the grandeur of nature around you. When you go home, you do not have to leave the beauty of nature behind. You can actually bring some of it home with you and use it to dress your windows. When decorating with natural bamboo shades, not only do you have a beautiful product but they are ecologically friendly as well. For those who wish to enjoy nature, and to help it at the same time- if there is a need for window treatments, perhaps the best choice will be to select bamboo shades.

The core base materials for bamboo shades is bamboo, which comes from one of the fastest growing trees in the world and is a completely natural product. Fast growing bamboo, used in real bamboo shades, comes from a tree that will grow more than three feet each month. There is no reason to feel guilty about using bamboo shades in your home as bamboo grows rapidly.

As the seemingly random looking bamboo sticks and slats are woven together traditionally by hand, or using simple machinery, these bamboo shades exude the natural ways of living. The bamboo sticks used as “fill” in these bamboo shades are woven on a loom just like traditional fabrics but because the various natural sizes, shapes and colors of the bamboo sticks are retained, the effect is a fresher more natural looking finished product.

Bamboo shades also look more natural than most alternatives because of the staining technique used. Many inferior wood products are stained so that every piece looks just like the next one. Bamboo shades are prepared and stained to keep their natural beauty. Because there are edges, grains and textures that are not smooth, colors and stains cannot be applied to bamboo pieces in a consistent manner, and the result is a naturally rough yet strangely and aesthetically pleasing finish. Every stick of bamboo will have its own unique color and appearance; no two will be the same.

The taste and choice of the consumer drives the sales and therefore the designs of the shades. Consumers make their color preferences clear by what they purchase. Woven wood shades do not sell well in white color patterns. Bamboo shades in white are not preferred like they are in other types of window treatments. Buyers are selecting these bamboo shades because of their good looks and organic qualities, illustrated by the popularity of darker colors as opposed to lighter tones.

You will be amazed at how easy and “eco- friendly” it is to have the natural beauty of bamboo shades in your home. Bamboo is a fast growing plant and therefore using it a resource for windows does not endanger it like other woods. The rapid growth rate of bamboo is only a piece of the story. More and more trees are available for harvest due to the fast growing nature of bamboo. If you feel you are harming nature by bringing it inside, you don`t have to worry about that. As a natural resource, bamboo has an uncanny and amazing capacity for growing quickly. Bamboo wood is a renewable resource as bamboo grows quickly and growers have also found new ways of cultivating bamboo groves even in areas where these didn`t grow previously.

When a bamboo shade becomes a part of the design of your home space, it evokes nature`s lures with its huge capacity to help individuals relax and feel the sensation of being outdoors. Casual or eloquent room décors will be enhanced with the natural look of a bamboo shade. There is no reason to feel bad about having bamboo shades in your home.

Advances To Blackout Roller Shades

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

With the entrance of the horseless carriage, and the incredible ease at which production lines can be streamlined for simple production, there came a great level of innovation in many industries and categories. Among these innovations was the great improvements to the blackout roller shades used to darken rooms worldwide. As one would have seen old style roller shades used ugly plain designs, now one can select among the many options of high quality and attractive treatments using higher quality roller shade fabrics, ensuring not only a great appearance, but a long-lasting product.

To discuss blackout roller shades, let’s start by explaining the most basic. Plain blackout shades are made using a multiple layer plastic material. Newer higher quality roller shades use material that is cored by a fiberglass sheet, which provides strength to the shade fabric. Older fabric was thinner and more tearable, so these new versions are better, straight from the start. However, there are several other enhancements to consider.

Top of the line roller shades include a chain/cord operated control system which facilitates the operation and widens the user’s options. These controls allow the operator to raise or lower the shade to a specific point without ever having to touch the material thus keeping the shade material clean of finger prints and significantly reducing wear and tear thus prolonging the useful life of the product.

The control systems presently used in this type of roller shades include a continuous chain/cord operated geared clutch allowing the smooth and gentle raising and lowering of the shade. These chains/cords are available in many colors thus expanding the color coordination of the hardware and the shade fabric material. Chains are available in metal or plastic. It is worth mentioning that the use of plastic chains is fast becoming more popular than metal chains due to the strength superiority of the plastic chain over the metal chain. Plastic chains are generally able to withstand twice the pulling force of metal chain and are somewhat less obtrusive.

As an evolutionary benefit, blackout roller shade materials are available in a variety of colors to match any decorative need and create a desired ambience. The new available collections of blackout roller shade fabrics also include many dual-color materials which provide a neutral color to the exterior while providing the desired color to the interior of the room. This very important feature allows the use of these materials whenever neutral exterior colors are mandated by homeowner associations, deed restrictions, etc.

Whenever desired by the consumer, valance and fascia systems are available to enhance the decor of a specific setting. These systems hide the roller shade hardware and create a soft, aesthetically pleasing look. Although these valance and fascia systems are not necessary to the operation of the roller shade, they are fast becoming very popular. Additionally, the popularity of “media rooms” in today’s new homes, have increased the overall demand for “complete blackout” roller shades which include, in addition to a fascia, a side and bottom rail system which blocks all light from entering a room where darkness is desired.

The appearance of a basic blackout roller shade can be significantly improved by the addition of decorative trims available in many colors and designs, deluxe bottom rails and color coordinated control chains/cords. These optional features will add a softer look and help in the overall appearance and coordination of the room being decorated.

In the end, we have come a long way from where we started. Basic, or plain roller shades, those which used a wooden slat bottom bar, and had only one color available, are no longer the norm. At this time, consumers have a wide range of options in the realm of decorative features for blackout roller shades. The collection of great colors, the new control systems, the potential for the use of a coordinated valance, as well as the sophisticated bottom bars are opening a world of decorative options for consumers.

Bamboo Shades Can Help Improve The Debated Environment

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Regardless of our political beliefs, we can all agree that there has been a raging and ongoing discussion about global warming. We can have conversations about global warming and the problems that all of us have in the environment, but if don`t begin doing something about this at home in the first place, then we are speaking in vain. Of course it`s necessary we reduce our driving and our fuel consumption. By driving at lower speeds we will consume less fuel. These are just a few of the changes we can implement; if everyone does this, and more, the impact will be tremendous.

We use plenty of energy in our houses. If you can reduce your home energy consumption, you can reduce your footprint. It is easy to make changes with the help of bamboo shades. Each one of these major advantages can be derived from the natural bamboo shades, unlike several window treatments and plastic simulated woven woods that can impart only some of these, and what`s more, bamboo shades are not expensive when compared to other premium window treatments.

Bamboo shades can reduce the amount of sunlight that enters our homes, which leads to lower indoor temperatures and lower cooling bills. It`s common for people to use electrical air conditioning systems during warm weather. By using bamboo shades to block sunlight and regulate temperature one can achieve almost immeasurable benefits. With bamboo shades, you can intercept 100% of light; basic open shades allow you to block 25% to 90% of light. This is an estimate of how much heat is blocked; this blocking of heat reduces the amount of energy we use to cool the room. We can accomplish all this with woven shades of wood. In addition to the prevention of the entry of light and heat, there is the advantage of decreased wear and tear on one`s furnishings.

When coming home at the end of the day, most people lower their blinds or shades so the neighbors won`t see them changing their clothes. Immediately afterwards, lights are switched on, leading to consumption of electricity. Bamboo shades, on the other hand, give us privacy while, at the same time, eliminating the need for artificial lighting. Unlined bamboo shades provide enough natural light to make the room usable, but allow for privacy as well, resulting in less energy spent.

One should also think about bamboo shades when the time comes to seek a replacement for their old window treatments. Biodegradability of these substances is nearly hundred percent. The shades are mostly made of bamboo and threads that decompose quickly. Although there are a few tiny metal and plastic parts, the rest will stay out of landfills. Bamboo shades, instead, will become useful to the environment. Rather than use a stack of cheap plastic shades, real bamboo shades are an option that are also a good help to planet earth.

This point is very important. Consider a true bamboo shade, made using human labor or natural rapid growth materials. Compare this to a heavy industrial operation of cultivating plastics from petroleum, manufacturing the slat materials on heavy energy dependent machinery, and manufacturing these shades on other industrial equipment. The environmental choice is easy.

Ultimately, you can employ window shades as one component of your overall home energy plan. A significant form of assistance is offered by bamboo shades. Interlaced woven shades can screen the light and at the same time gives privacy. Recycling of bamboo shades is simple. Bamboo shades can help lower your electric bill since they are so effective at modulating the amount of light that comes into your home. Basically, it can be very environmentally friendly to use bamboo shades.

Obtaining Privacy Using Bamboo Shades

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Homeowners are increasingly moving to more thoughtful consideration of their window treatments. This is partly driven by the need to save expenses. However, there is a stronger driving force, which is the available options, as well as the increasingly diverse consumer needs for their window treatments. Privacy and light control are part of the decision-making process when choosing bamboo shades. Another element to consider when buying these products is how they will add to your decor. Bamboo shades are attractive and good for privacy, as long as you educate yourself about how to choose the right ones. This article will only address the privacy aspects of bamboo shades.

When people live near others, privacy in the home becomes a concern. Our home is our haven, requiring security and privacy from the outside world. When privacy is an issue, bamboo shades make an elegant choice for a window covering. You can cover more than 95% of your window with attractive materials, giving you security that`s aesthetically pleasing. If you set up the bamboo shade correctly, you`ll have almost total privacy. This can rest our minds with the peaceful enjoyment of our spaces, while still allowing a beautiful décor style.

Privacy can be compromised if the bamboo shade doesn`t cover the whole window, from top to bottom or side to side. An outside mounted bamboo shade that extends several inches wider than the window will offer more privacy. Keep in mind, however, that an outside mount bamboo shade typically hangs an inch or two in front of the window, so anyone can see past the sides. To prevent prying eyes, order bamboo shades that are six inches wider than the window, so they extend three inches out on the sides. Larger bamboo shades also give the appearance of larger windows. Thus, while keeping outsiders from seeing our inside secrets, those in the rooms, those who are welcome that is, can see the beauty of the large windows, and the wonderful splash of design on your spaces.

Selection of the correct fabric will ensure maximum privacy. Bamboo has such a diversity of design, and this is where many homeowners may feel lost or uncomfortable. It is quite simple, however. Overlapping sticks are a big help when it comes to privacy. The separation between slats may vary according to the patterns chosen. Most people have found that this is not an issue. But if it is, bamboo shades that are made with overlapping sticks provide more privacy and security. To make sure of this, look at the material to make sure it overlaps and doesn`t have large gaps.

Buy lined shades to get the most privacy from your bamboo shades. Lining your shades will guarantee that the naturally occurring gaps will be concealed. When purchasing lined bamboo shades, look for those designated “outside mount.” Using lined shades, the entire window opening will be covered by the window treatment, which will also block the light and give much greater privacy. Among the benefits of lining your bamboo shades is that the patterns show up beautifully. Lined bamboo shades give you a lot of control over the light levels in the room, even offering complete darkness when desired.

Bamboo shades can enhance your living area, adding beauty and privacy. The right bamboo shade can give you the beauty you desire while keeping your beautiful views available when you want them. When selecting bamboo shades, you will want to make sure the shades provide privacy and security. Bamboo shades are great for making your home more private and secure; just be sure to pick the right patterns, measure and install them correctly, and decide on lined vs. unlined. Making the right choice will provide beauty, privacy, and a lot more.

Naturally Beautiful, Bamboo Shades

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

The past few years has included a return to the basics in the homes. This is likely to increase as people return to their roots. Bamboo shades are a strong and common element of this increased interest in home décor items. As their popularity grows, so do the different styles of bamboo patterns. The unique patterns of the bamboo shade creates a style and ambiance that deserves attention. The three big effects are privacy, lighting, and the physical performance. All of these are just as important as how they look.

One rather basic bamboo product is known as the “matchstick.” The matchstick bamboo shades can blend into any decorative style using colors or a combination of colors. Also, matchstick bamboo shades can use different color threads to add some different looks. As a result of the separation between the “sticks”, the matchstick bamboo shades will provide less privacy and less light control. A buyer can select from a wide variety of these shades because matchstick colors and threads can be greatly diversified.

The use of natural products creates a beautiful pattern with the larger bamboo pieces, as shown in the tortoise shell bamboo shades, which makes a decor scheme that is unique to raw bamboo. You can optimize the amount of privacy and light blockage by choosing bigger sticks in bamboo shades.

Natural bamboo “tubes” provide such an appealing natural look that they are used in the making of bamboo shades. These “tubes” have not been altered in any way, so they offer the appearance of a natural plant with splices that make the individual sticks look longer. Bamboo shades made from a mixture of splices and randomly positioned sticks offer less privacy and light control than shades made out of tortoise shell bamboo. Bamboo shades are in a class by themselves because of their appearance and effectiveness.

A bamboo shade is a good shade for privacy, which is a significant issue for many consumers. This means that the materials used to make the shades must overlap when they are woven together, which will improve the privacy features and increase the ability of the user to control the light, while still allowing some sunlight to come into the room.

A grass weave shade is considered a bamboo shade, also. Even though grass weave shades are grouped with bamboo shades due to similar appearance, they are not considered bamboo because they are made from natural grasses. There is no question that grass weave shades add beauty to any room, but they do not possess the privacy and light control qualities that bamboo shades have.

Two vital factors in choosing bamboo shades include a favorable look and style. Sometimes the factors of light, privacy, and usage can not compete with the decorative attributes of the bamboo shade. However, window treatment manufacturers are aware that privacy and light control are essential to the selection of bamboo shades, and that they are often conceded for the sake of aesthetics; so the industry has devised the perfect solution – privacy and blackout liners.

Attached to the exterior of the bamboo shades, the liners increase functionality and add to the selection of patterns and colors. Lined bamboo shades and grass weave shades are highly sought after, and this trend is expected to increase.

To sum it up, there is an ever-expanding variety of shade patterns, colors, weaves, and liners available to the consumer, and there is no longer any need to sacrifice privacy and light control simply for the sake of aesthetics. There are lots of reasons for bamboo shades to quickly become one of the most popular types of window treatments worldwide.

Choose Bamboo Shades, Save The Planet

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

The planet is ours to live on and to enjoy. However, many people believe that we are capable of damaging it permanently. If we do not begin by taking steps at home, then any discussion about global warming and the problems we are faceing, will be nothing but talk. As we all know, talk is cheap, but when people act and make changes, that is when true improvements can happen. Everyone should consider reducing the miles they drive to conserve gas. By driving a bit slower, we can cut our fuel consumption. Keeping a well-maintained vehicle also is helpful, but even better is to carpool with a coworker. These are the easiest as well as most apparent of the changes that we can make. So many people can make more easy change at home. Some of these changes can have a superior impact on the environment.

The main source of solutions lives at home with us. Our homes use a ton of energy. The less we use, the lower our impact. Choosing bamboo shades is an easy change that we can make to reduce our footprint. While plastic simulated woven wood shades and other window treatments might provide some of the same benefits, only natural wood bamboo shades can remain affordable while providing all of these great benefits.

Light entering a room can cause one to use energy-consuming machinery to lower the heat. It can also cause furnishing to wear prematurely, thus sending them to the landfills. We can reduce the light entering by using bamboo shades, thereby lowering cooling costs. A lot of people use electrical systems to cool their homes in the summer. By blocking the sunlight, the benefits of bamboo shades in the management of light and heat are countless. Bamboo shades are great because they can totally block the light coming into your home by 100 percent. Also, when open, the basic shades can block anywhere between twenty-five percent to over ninety percent of the light that is filtering into your home. This is roughly the amount of reduction of the incoming heat, which then lowers the amount of cooling required. You can achieve all of this by simply using woven shades. By keeping out excess heat and light, you will reduce wear and tear on your belongings.

Most people lower their blind or curtains when they change, so as not to reveal themselves to the world. Then, we normally turn on the lights, which of course use electricity. On the other hand, bamboo shades will provide privacy while allowing filtered daylight to enter the home, reducing the need to turn on the lights. You can save energy, have plenty of privacy and still have enough filtered natural daylight from your windows by using unlined bamboo shades.

When it is time to replace window coverings, bamboo shades should definitely be the choice. These natural wood shades are nearly totally biodegradable. There are only very small metal and plastic parts incorporated into the bamboo shade. This means that you can be certain in knowing that the bamboo shades and threads will disintegrate quicker than most other types of blinds, and you can feel great knowing that you`re not adding to the piles and piles of garbage that will never go away. On the other hand, bamboo shades will biodegrade into environmentally friendly components instead of plastic trash that will last for a thousand years, because natural bamboo shades are completely biodegradable.

Ultimately, you can use window shades as one component of your overall home energy plan. Bamboo shades can be especially useful. Light filtering and privacy are some of the benefits of woven wood shades. You can recycle all natural bamboo shades when you are done with them. Because they provide excellent light control, bamboo shades may help reduce your cooling bills. Bamboo shades are a smart choice that`s good for the planet.

Enjoy “Nature” With Bamboo Shades

Monday, December 15th, 2008

After a visit to a park, or a camping trip, so may people want to extend that visit by using some design elements of nature in their homes. Some will bring in house plants. Others ay change from metal or laminate furniture to wood furniture. Some may even use paintings or other art. While all of this is fine and well, it can also be easy to use the natural design features of bamboo shades, and when using real bamboo, it will not only be a beautiful product, but it will also be an ecologically kind window treatment.

Bamboo is a natural product, the result of one of the fastest growing trees in the world. The bamboo used in real woven bamboo shades will have been selected from trees that can grow as much as four feet or more each month. This rapid growth allows consumers of bamboo shades to feel ecologically right while bringing some of this natural beauty into their homes.

The natural stylings of bamboo shades comes from, among other sources, the fact that the pieces are woven together in a traditional style. The process is not much different from the actual weaving of fabrics, but the bamboo shades use full bamboo sticks as the fill, so the “fabric” is a random looking assortment of various colored bamboo reeds and tubes to make a real fresh from the jungle look.

In addition to the above, bamboo shades look natural because of the way in which the sticks are colored. While most traditional wood products are stained or painted so that they hide any imperfections, the real bamboo processing which is used for the sticks in bamboo shades is done in a manner to try to maintain the many imperfections in the wood itself. The rough edges, the hard bamboo grain, and the large bumps and joints all lead to an inconsistent finish, and make the sticks unable to accept a uniform coating of the colorants. This means that every stick will have an entirely unique color and appearance.

The actual production of bamboo shades, the fabrication, creates a final product that has the look of a custom crafted hand made product. Do not get this wrong to think that you will see horrible flaws and defects, and that there will be glue dripping all over. On the contrary, these will all be captured and cleaned, and the end product will be a unique customized design, and this uniqueness of the bamboo shades is what you are seeking. However, you will need to be willing to have a tolerance for many of these defects. Bamboo shades will often have a twist, a bump, or irregular folding. This is minor, and not unattractive, but just enough to help one perceive the custom crafted, mountain cabin style of the natural shades that are bamboo shades.

Of course, the sales of the designs, and the taste of the consumers are fully related. Consumers have voted their tastes with bamboo shades through their choices in colors. While there are a few white patterns available in bamboo shades, these happen to be the lowest selling colors in the category of woven wood shades. As white is the most important color range in shutter, shades, and particularly wood blinds, it is among the lowest in popularity for bamboo shades. Consumers are choosing these shades for their beauty and their natural appearances, as evidenced by the inverted sales of more dark colors than light paints, as compared to other products in this product group.

We should revisit, given that we have focussed on the natural look, what it means to take these beautiful trees and mill them into attractive bamboo shades. Unlike most other wood based products, the raw material used here is rapidly renewing. The fact that a bamboo tree can grow four feet in a month is only part of the story. These trees grow very aggressively, and new trees become available for harvest quickly. So, while you may feel that you are hurting nature to bring it inside, it is just not the case. Bamboo is nearly a miracle wood in natural resources. The wood in each bamboo shade is replaced quicker than it is used, and there are new techniques being developed to grow more bamboo, even in non native habitats.

Once you have elected your new and beautiful bamboo shades, you can rest easily. Mix up a little relaxation scene in your home with some calm music, maybe a cool drink. You can enjoy the new environment that you have created that brings you back to the visit you had to the mountains. The bamboo shades bring you back, and you are ready to enjoy it all.

Bamboo Shades Made With Grassweaves Shine

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Due to their popularity, bamboo shades are available in hundreds of styles and natural colors. There are basic matchstick styles including several colors. Then, there are the so called the “sticks” because they are made of larger woven bamboo sticks. More diverse styles include braided bamboo and even shades that include different sizes of stick and combinations of threads which hold the bamboo shade together. “Bamboo shades” can also be made of grass weaves, oftentimes mixed in different colors and hues, as a single pattern. In this article our focus will be placed on grass weave shades.

It stands to reason that the unique natural style of bamboo shades is the primary reason why bamboo shades have gained so much in popularity. On the other hand, grass weave shades have taken the desired natural, rustic look to a new level. When compared to bamboo shades, grass weave shades somehow transform the appearance of a room in a different way that bamboo shades do yet retain the welcome sense of the outdoors. Perhaps we may call this effect a softer, more casual look.

Many consumers prefer bamboo shades over the grass weave shade because of light control or the transparency of the grass weave over the bamboo material for the grass weave will always allow the filtration of light unless lined. The ability of light to filter through the grass material is actually a benefit since it is within our capability to control the filtration by the addition of a liner to the exterior facing side of the shade. The use of these liners allows the end user to determine what amount of light is to filter through by using specific liners which will allow lots of light, little light or no light at all. The latter are knows as blackout liners. Another concern of many customers is the potential harboring of mold in a natural product. If the grass weave shade is to be installed in air conditioned quarters, mold creation should not be a concern. However, if these natural shades, be that bamboo shades or grass weave shades, are to be installed in non-air-conditioned setting, consideration should be given to this possibility. Additionally, natural material shades will almost always have a “natural” smell when newly installed and normally this smell will disappear over time.

How do designers refer to the style of decoration using grass weave shades? After all, we can say that grasses were used to cover openings when humans lived in huts. The islands of the South Pacific were populated by these types of abodes which used grass weaves for their construction, window covers and even boat building. These bamboo shades (grass weaves) are extremely popular in retreat rooms, spa rooms and bedrooms and in high all over the world. Another reason for their popularity is that bamboo shades and grass weave shades blend in with the majority of the decors thus reducing the expense of decorating any space in the home regardless of its use.

Once the decision to purchase grass weave shades over bamboo shades is made, one must the face the difficulty of deciding ever which style and color to select. The styles available are defined by grasses woven together, how they are so woven and the color combinations. Mostly because of the desired “natural” look, the natural colors are the most popularly chosen thus making the selection process not as difficult as originally feared. An important factor to take into consideration and important to understand by the consumer is that the sample of the material chosen while making a selection will almost always not be an exact match to the material in the finished product because of the natural factor. Yet, it is this difference, that sets these grass weave and bamboo shades apart from all other window treatments.

In summary, bamboo shades as well as grass weave shades can and will create a sense of natural beauty in any room, from the kitchen to the master bedroom and all others rooms in between. These natural materials are long lasting, easy to maintain and diverse in their expression of beauty unlike many other types of window treatments. Additionally, these shades when coupled with modern mechanisms also provide a highly functional product which increases the value and practical use of homes anywhere. Also, let us not forget that the previously mentioned use of liners on the exterior facing side of these shades provide full control of exterior light entering a room and these liners are available in many colors to meet any exterior appearance requirement by homeowner associations or deed restriction.
