As Gerald Koplan, the Fox reporter stated, “This method posits an interesting theory. But does it work? Well, we put it to the test, and it does.”

Basically, the method hinges on the two complementary mathematical disciplines of probability and statistics. Much like a mortality table, which is used by insurance companies to predict how many people of a certain age will die in a given year, the parking solution predicts how many cars will “die,” that is vacate their spots, within a given interval of time. Just as an insurance company cannot predict who will die within a given year, only how many; the parking problem cannot predict which car of a group will vacate a spot, only that one of a group will within a given time period.

The purpose of the problem was to show how, using some very basic assumptions and some minimal mathematical theory, a common frustration could be solved. In the problem, the assumption used was that the average time spent shopping during the Christmas season was 120 minutes. Using a mathematical curve called the normal distribution and a famous statistical theory, we can predict that more than 99% of the cars in our sample will vacate the designated parking area within 180 minutes. (Remember we used the average mall stay of 120 minutes to get to this 180 minute number.)

Based on empirical data collected from repeated observations of cars pulling into and leaving parking spots, the normal curve was chosen as the mathematical model to help with this problem. Moreover, the nature of this stochastic process (a stochastic process is a random process involving a sequence of events like here cars pulling in and leaving spots) led to the conjecture that over time, the interval between cars leaving would “smoothe” out and that such interval could be calculated by dividing the number of maximum minutes, in this case 180, by the number of designated cars, in this case 20.

With this information in hand, and the basic assumptions granted, we can with confidence fit a mathematical model to the data so that reliable predictions can be made. What could be easier than doing a simple division to calculate how to find a parking spot? And you thought math was that bad.

At the time of writing this article I rank number one at Google for the search term “free online business tools”. My web site has a screen capture of the Google results taken today to prove it.

By the time you read this and hundreds of people try this technique I wouldn’t be surprised if someone has captured the number one position for that particular keyword phrase from me. And I guess that is okay with me since it actually proves that anyone, including you, can use this technique successfully.

Firstly let me clarify that I did absolutely nothing to get a ranking on that search term until a few days ago. So how did I get there in five days without spending a cent?

I used article marketing. Article marketing involves writing articles that webmasters and editors can use free of charge on their web sites and in their newsletters in return for showing an “About the Author” resource box at the end of the article. This resource box tells the readers a little about the author and most importantly, it includes a web link to the author`s web site. You can write articles on almost any topic imaginable, and make them available for republishing at popular article directories.

Article directories are one of the best kept secrets for getting top Google rankings quickly. The reason they work is that the top article directories are already ranked highly by the search engines and more often than not they are spidered every 1 to 3 days.

Here is my true, real-life example. On 7 August I submitted two articles to around 17 article directories. One was titled “Free Online Business Tools – Create PDF Ebooks Free” and the other was “Free Online Business Tools – Search Engine Positioning Tool”. My primary goal with each of these articles was to inform my readers of a free online business tool and to drive traffic to my landing page at DanielMoro.com where they could sign up for my online business newsletter.

A few days later on 12 August I searched at Google for the term “Free Online Business Tools” -without the quotes – and one of my articles was number one in Google’s results. The web page showing in Google’s results was my article at JustArticles, one of the article directories I submitted to just a few days earlier. Today, two days later, I am still ranking number one at Google but the article showing today is one of these articles at GoArticles, another article directory.

As significate as landing on the moon was, your spot in cyberspace can be just as memorable. I find that the better looking and working a site is then the more it makes me want to come back and use it. When a person first lands on your website they need to be amazed at not only the design but the content and what you offer. Each part of your website should leave a mark in the visitors mind and make them want to stop in every time they jump online. The reason I list these keys above in the order I did is because this is how a visitor is going to evaluate your website. First they will see the design before anything(including the content or how the site works). So you must make sure the design is fluid, has a good color combination as well as the text is easy to read. Also make sure the navigation is easy to reach(unless you don`t want them to check out any other parts of your site).

Once the design pulls them in then they will be looking at your content to see if it interests them. It probably does as if it didn`t they likely wouldn`t have came to your website in the first place. Keeping your content updated will help keep their interest and will make them start clicking around your site. This is what you want them to do and is especially important if you have a store on your website. The longer they stay on your site the better chance you have of them engaging in on activities (such as a message board) or purchasing from your store.

Now you can see how these two things line up for the last part. If your site doesn`t work properly then the first two keys(design and content) will be for absolutely nothing. If your subpages don`t load quickly, if links don`t work and if errors pop up all over the site then you are going to be in big trouble. Visitors will leave your site quicker then a speeding bullet. So make sure your site works properly.

Remember having a great design, content and a site that works is very easy. The tricky part is getting visitors to your website, so once you get them there you definitely don`t want to loose them. Cause if they leave all your effort will have been for not.
