Jamband for Groovy Rhythms with Jay Trainer Band

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Jamband is the term used to refer to musical groups that do live performances and create albums that speak about fan culture. This kind of group originated back in the 1960s, and it was the popular Grateful Dead who started it all. From then on, jamband continued its mark by coming up with similar bands such as the Phish in the 1990s.

But there are reports establishing the use of the term jamband as early as 1937 with the band Coleman Hawkins and His All Star Jam Band. Musicians during this time included the term jam band in the glossary of dance orchestra, which simply means an improvisation of music. There is no written music, and playing is more on improvising an existing tune or melody, which is usually over extended.

Jamband Features

What you usually see in jamband performances are extended musical improvisation, which means there are a lot of jamming in the middle of a song. The songs created make up long sets of chord patterns that can make a listener move in a rhythmic mood. The first ever jamband, Grateful Dead, was known for their psychedelic rock music. Over the years, the term jamband do not only refer to rock music, but it included, jazz fusion, progressive bluegrass, and funk tunes. The term has also expanded their music to include groups that play folk music, country music, electronica, world music, and blues.

Jamband Today

When the music of Grateful Dead, who had huge fans and followers, began to lay low, the Phish jamband inherited not only their music but the community of followers as well. Phish was later on described as the breathing and cultural phenomena that had hippies for fans following them across the country. Today, jamband is the term used for all music influenced by Grateful Dead and related bands, which includes the music played by the Jay Trainer Band.

Get the Inside Scoop to Weight Loss with a Famous Personal Trainer

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Very few people that embark on losing weight are successful on their first try. There is a lot of information out there and most people find it difficult to sort through everything. There are some sources that say cardio is a great way to burn off calories and fat. There are others that swear by the resistance training philosophy. Since muscle burns a lot more calories than fat, building muscle through resistance training is something that is truly gaining popularity. There are other sources for weight loss that encourage strict eating plans without any exercise at all. Ever so often there are some fad diets that come along. Those are the kind that offer quick results, but aren’t necessarily healthy. Fad diets prey on those that are desperate for quick results but don’t have the ability to work out and carefully monitor what they eat.

Although dieting and exercise are the best way to lose weight in a healthy way, there are some other solutions. Even when using diet and exercise, there are lots of workouts and types of diets you can choose from. Some diets can get more complicated than others. The basic premise to remember when trying to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. If you consider how many calories you consume on a daily basis against how many calories you are burning, and you burn more than you take in, then you will have a loss. Once people realize this, weight loss can be extremely easy if they’re keeping track of their numbers.
If you are having trouble losing weight or are in a slump, one great resource you can try is changing up your workout.

The human body can get used to certain things over a period of time, and might not be reacting if you’ve been doing the same workout for an extended period of time. Another resource that can be a great help when it comes to weight loss is using a personal trainer like Jillian Michaels. Jillian Michaels is a personal trainer on the hit reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser. Public Speaking: From Trainer to Speaker – A world of difference

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

A lot of trainers have aspirations to become professional speakers and are often misled into thinking that because both activities involve speaking to a group of people they are all basically the same activity. The truth is that there are probably more differences than similarities between training and speaking.

The most obvious difference of course is with numbers. Trainers tend to deal with smaller numbers from one to one to perhaps fifty. There are exceptions, but most training courses deal with small groups of people. Speakers tend to work with larger groups. Again there are exceptions but audiences from fifty to thousands are more common.

Another apparent similarity is that both training and speaking are concerned with changing behaviour, but again each discipline approaches this in a very different way.

A trainer usually works to a Training Gap. There is a gap between a person`s actual and desired performance and the goal of the trainer is help the individual to correct that gap. That skill development may involve some significant changes in habits, knowledge and attitude. The trainer breaks the process into a number of simple steps – then they Show and Tell, Observe and Correct, Motivate and Supervise, until the new skill is mastered.

A speaker has a different challenge. The audience are not usually there because a specific training gap has been identified. The speaker is selected because there is a belief that learning about a specific topic will be of interest and benefit to members to the audience. Once the speech is over it is the responsibility of each member of the audience to decide if they want to change behaviour.

Now here is the problem with that. We learn skills that help us to survive and prosper and “if it ain`t broke we don`t fix it.” No one sets aside the old way to seek the new until they personally feel the need to do so. The audience is only going to take action if the speaker has motivated them to do so. If they want someone to change their behaviour they have got to give them a reason so powerful that it gets them in motion – motivates them.

More importantly trying to motive someone to make two changes in behaviour is massively more difficult than to make one… and three changes, almost impossible. We can really only work on one change at a time. All the great keynote speeches I have remembered had one powerful memorable message that was repeated over and over again until I could not forget it. Compelling stories were told to inspire and motivate me to take action – facts and figures were converted into memorable image, jokes or metaphors.

The key to success as Professional Speaker is to “Specialise”. Speakers focus on a very small area of change and become the expert in that. And the more successful they become the more they specialise. A trainer on the other hand is often responsible for a wide area of skill development – in fact all the skills needed in an organizations. Sales, marketing, customer care, leadership, computer skills, presentation skills, interviewing, management, supervision, etc.

Because of this need to train on almost anything, most trainers rarely use original material. Trainers pick up ideas from other speakers and trainers and import them into their courses. Using other speakers` material without a license is against the code of conduct in speakers associations around the world, but I doubt there is a speaker or trainer alive who has not at one stage in their careers, used material they picked up from another presenter and because trainers tend to work with a finite audience of staff in their organisation, it tends not to be noticed.

On the other hand a speaker really must find original material. This is not just because it is unethical to use other speaker`s material; it is because the meeting planners demand originality. It is the unique material that makes a speaker special. Consider this – if you speak at an event on the same topic as an earlier speaker, will the audience be entertained or bored by your speech.

A professional speaker is an “expert who speaks for a living”. If you have aspirations to be a speaker, ask yourself – “What am I really an expert in?” If you are not yet an expert, then what do you want to be an expert in. What would it take to make you an expert? Start doing it now. Reading for half an hour a day on your chosen topic for 5 years will make you an acknowledged expert. Learn to read five times faster than average and you can do it in one year.

By becoming an expert in a field, you begin to have your own story to tell. You find what motivates people and why they resist. You develop a library of stories, jokes, anecdotes, visual images, games, interactive exercises related to your field of expertise. You learn to take material from another area and change and adapt it so that it becomes original material in yours.

I don`t think it`s possible to develop truly great material unless you are really focused and to be a successful speaker you need truly great material. It takes time to develop, but it`s worth it because it will give you a good living for years to come.

What to look for in an NLP and Hypnotherapy Trainer

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

NLP and Hypnotherapy are fast growing must-have skills these days. However, in a market where practically anyone can call themselves a practitioner, how do you know that the company or individual training you, is professionally qualified and skilled in the area of expertise. Do you know how to tell the difference between Joe Bloggs off the street who`s spent a few hours reading books on the subject in comparison to the major trainers who have really invested their time and knowledge in the stuff?

I work for a company called People Building, who provide NLP and Hypnotherapy training in London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. I would like to share with you the experience I had when looking for an NLP and Hypnotherapy Trainer.

When I decided that I wanted to do the training course, I began my search for a trainer, as many people do, on the internet. I didn`t realise quite how many NLP and Hypnotherapy Trainers there were out there! Even just throughout Herts, Beds, Bucks and London, the Google pages were littered. My main priorities at the time were to find a training course that offered both NLP and Hypnotherapy within the one course, that fitted in with my budget, that were fairly local to me in Hertfordshire. It turned out that a very popular ex stage hypnotist had teamed up with one of the significant figures of NLP and was running a course in London. However, to do both the NLP and Hypnotherapy training course was almost double the money I had available. Later, a friend I had met at a Tony Robbins event, said that they had done the NLP training course with that particular company, and that the group sizes were enormous. This meant that if someone felt confused or unsure at any point, it was difficult for them to put up their hand and ask questions. They also said that the training course had taught “mainly the unconscious mind.” Which meant that they had learnt everything they needed to know, they just didn`t know that they knew it. I eventually found a training course, but it was very far from home. It turned out to be quite an adventure and I met many new friends. My only complaint was that I felt I had only been given the tip of the iceberg, I came away wanting more, much, much more. And the more fellow NLPer`s I met, the more than me, they seemed to know. I ended up re-doing my NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner trainings (so I paid twice as much as I`d wanted to after all!)

Now I`m qualified as a Trainer myself, and I run an NLP and Hypnotherapy Training school that provides training courses throughout Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London. Obviously, my style isn`t for everyone, not everybody will like me, but I thought that what would be useful for everyone, is for my website to be a useful resource for anyone who is planning on doing NLP or Hypnotherapy training courses. That`s why I have included on there all of our course contents, what to look for in a trainer, and what to look for in a training course. So to whet your appetite, here are a few tips, but please visit our website for more.
They should be a qualified master practitioner and hold a trainers certification so that they can legitimately certify their students.
The trainers certification should be recognised by an accrediting body such as the ABNLP or BBNLP.
They should be approachable and fit in with who you are as a person.
They should have good rapport with their audience.
A sense of fun.
You should feel convinced that they deliver value.

Welcome to People Building, a self development company dedicated to inspiring growth, progression and better results in your life. We have been fascinated by the mind, body and human behaviour for many years now. It is our privilege to present to you authentic NLP and Hypnosis training for the betterment of your skills in Business, Education, Therapy and many other areas. Our unique trainings have been designed as one of the most innovative trainings available in the NLP field of learning. We will never cease to evolve, and it gives me great pleasure, to invite you with us on this epic adventure.

Benefits of A Golf Fitness Stretch Trainer

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Hardly any professional worth his name today will dare approach their game without a golf fitness stretch trainer of sorts.

The game of golf has changed tremendously in recent times. No longer is it viewed as the leisure sport of old. Golf is now recognized as an athletic sport where performance depends a lot on your fitness level. Thus the wide introductions of golf fitness stretch trainers and training.

Stretch training plays an important role in improving the flexibility of a golfer and therefore the quality of the swing both in terms of controlled direction and much more power and distance.

A stretch training program from a qualified golf fitness stretch trainer will also help in increasing strength in the golf-specific muscles of the golfer.

A golf fitness stretch trainer also helps a professional golfer to recognize the correct warm-up exercises to carry out before any session on the course. This not only improves performance greatly, but it also reduces on the risk of injury.

Golf related injuries can be quite frustrating to a golfer especially when that golfer continues to ignore the possible benefits in quick and permanent recovery that are possible with the help of a golf fitness stretch trainer.

There is one compelling factor about golf that makes the work of a golf fitness stretch trainer so important. In other sports, it is possible to increase fitness level and muscle strength by simply playing the game itself as much as possible.

Sadly this is not the case with golf. One of the reasons is that the most common and strenuous activity in the game, the golf swing, usually lasts barely a second.

This means that the only way to improve golf fitness and the strength of muscles is by exercising away from the course and generally making use of the services of a golf fitness stretch trainer.

About The Author: Mike Pedersen is one of the top golf fitness swing trainers in the country, author and founder of several cutting-edge online golf fitness sites. Take a look at his just released golf fitness dvds and manual at his golf swing tips site – Perform Better Golf.

How to Choose a Golf Fitness Trainer

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I can`t begin to tell you how many times I`ve been asked this question during my travels around the country and world on the golf circuit; “Sean, I am looking for a golf fitness trainer in my area, what do you suggest?”

Finding a golf fitness trainer for you, simply takes a little knowledge and time on your part.

Bottom line there are thousands of fitness experts, personal trainer, instructors, and conditioning coaches available to you. Some are more qualified than others to help you improve your golf game. Lets first off take a look at some general qualifications to look for in candidates.

The golf trainer`s education would be the first thing I would consider. In the world of personal training and fitness, there are no educational requirements, governing bodies, or state boards. Essentially, anyone can hang a sign on their front door and call themselves a “personal golf fitness trainer”. It`s unfortunate, but unqualified people are training people every day.

A highly qualified golf fitness trainer will likely have a college degree in the field of kinesiology, biomechanics, health sciences or a related field. There are many other organizations that accredit trainers too. These organizations provide intense educational programs providing the trainer with certifications. Accreditations from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and American Council of Exercise are highly regarded within the field. I would suggest looking for a golf fitness trainer with a degree in the field and at least one additional certification from the above organizations. This tells us that they have taken the time to become more specialized and better educated.

The Proof is in the Pudding

Experience within the field is absolutely critical. First look at the trainer`s general experience and dig deeper. In general, I am talking about how long they have been in the industry. Are they just starting out or are they a seasoned veteran in the field? What areas of the industry have they worked? Have they worked only in the health club setting, have they worked in a collegiate or professional athletic environment, or experience directly related to the golf industry?

I would look for a golf fitness trainer with some experience in athletics. A trainer with experience in competitive athletics understands the demands on your body under competition, whether it`s the weekend round with your friends, the club tournament, or the Masters for that matter.

Go to the Right Mechanic to Get Your Car Fixed

Now I don`t know about you, but if I had an engine problem with my car, I probably wouldn`t go to a motorcycle mechanic to get it fixed.

Would you look for a personal trainer that specialized in let`s say, youth football, to help your golf game?

Most trainers in the industry usually have a repeat client base. The client base can tell you a lot about the trainer`s area of expertise. The trainer`s cliental base could be very specific, for example working with elderly individuals or with athletes only. Other trainers may work with numerous types of individuals from young children, homemakers, to the budding collegiate star. More than anything a trainer`s client base gives you an idea if they have experience working with someone like you, and if they fit your individual needs.

I would suggest looking for a golf fitness trainer that has some experience working with someone like you. For example, if you are Nationwide Tour player, I would probably suggest looking for a golf fitness trainer who has experience working with professional athletes. The experience of working with professional athletes is only going to help with the interaction between the two of you.

Can`t We Just Get Along

Outside of education and experience, the final area to consider is the trainer`s personality. Some personalities will work well with you and others will not.

To get the best results for you, you must find a trainer that you are comfortable with on a professional and personal level. This will allow for the training sessions, development of your program, and the relationship to be a positive experience for both. Remember, you must trust the golf fitness trainer and this requires a level of comfort with them.

Overall, I suggest taking some time on the front end and interviewing a series of trainers. This will allow you to compare and contrast all of the criteria we`ve discussed, and help you make a decision you feel good about.

Remember, choosing the right golf fitness trainer for you can mean the difference between reaching your goals on the golf course or not.

iPod Workouts – A Trainer You Can Take Anywhere

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Yesterday I was riding in my truck. I went over a bridge that had some exceptionally quick and repetitive bumps. As I crossed this relatively short bridge and passed an uneventful point in my life something happened that has had me thinking for a full day now. I felt my belly jiggle. And when I looked down, I could sort of see it jiggle from under my shirt. I hated that.

So, what do I do about it? Well, if I want to hop on some sort of bandwagon that may actually have the legs to make it into an actual established activity, I need look no further than in the front pocket of my backpack. What`s in there? Nothing short of a 20 gig powerhouse packed with nothing less than thousands of my favorite songs. Yes, its my well used ipod. I must confess that for the year or so that I`ve owned my ipod, the state of my belly has not improved, but seems to have actually deteriorated. But, that was before I began to hear about a new use for it (aside from bothering friends into listening to a song that will “change their life”).

Ipod workouts are yet another thing that this apple product is doing that no one expected. Obviously, a benefit while working out with your ipod is its mobility and its ability to absorb shocks that cd players can`t. But, the new fad of ipod workouts has taken that at least a step or two further. There have been several workout instructions that are now available to be purchased or downloaded. This is like getting yourself a personal trainer that will walk you through your workouts whenever and wherever your heart desires. Some of these can even come with images that can be displayed on your screen.
The point is that at times one of the biggest obstacles in the way of you and a belly that doesn`t jiggle when going over bridges is knowing what to do during your workout and having the motivation to do so; and both of these may be significally minimized by using an ipod workout.

Galadriel Anderson is a huge iPod fan, taking hers even to the mountains. Read more about iPod accessories and iPod workouts.
